Free Fabric Friday

on August 2 | in Contests & Giveaways | by | with 199 Comments

Before we get into the free fabric, I have to publicly thank Beth and Lauren for allowing me to go on vacation.  If you are a small business owner, or know one, you will understand that sometimes vacations just aren’t worth the stress.  You have to prepare to be gone, you worry while you’re away, and you put out fires when you get back.  Well, for the first time in 4 years, none of that!  Beth did an amazing job of handling the blog, including the awesome challenge of coordinating the Bag Month Contest.  Tallying the votes, notifying the contestants, posting the winners–all Beth.  Thank you, Beth!  And the shop?  Lauren got the orders out speedy quick, added new products and even took care of my pets;-)  Oh, and I never got around to letting you all know that the amazing new blog graphics are Lauren’s doing too.  Thank you, Lauren!

Now let’s talk about the bags.  Can you believe the gorgeous bags that won prizes?!  What amazing talent all those women have.  You can see all the entries here.  Believe me, if I could have awarded prizes to everyone, I would have.  Beautiful, beautiful bags.

A quick shop note:  Gnomes, Vans, Owls and Horses are back in stock.

Finally, the free fabric!  We’ll give away one yard of fabric ($9.10 or less) to five people.  Comment anywhere in the blog between now and Monday and you’ll be entered in the pool from which we randomly select the winners.  This would be an excellent time to catch up on any of the Bag Month fun you may have missed!

I look at bags all day (I make the suckers) but Bag Month was really cool! And it even reminded me to head over to the shop and buy *way* too much fabric, for…more purses! 123. Shelly says:

I gotta say, that I found your web site AFTER I made my bag, but not by much. I knew that people were making bags, but I had no idea how much creativity was going on out there – I got totally hooked and bought a couple of bag patterns and can’t wait to get started on them. The contest entries were so inspiring! I guess I’ve had my head stuck in knitting too long and just broke out of my rut to completely obsess on another hobby. Perhaps I can manage both. It’s a goal anyway. Thanks for doing the bag contest – it was fun.

  137. Nikko says:

I’m with Kathleen. If I had another 24 hours, maybe I could get around to all the sewing and crafting I’d like to do. Or, maybe I need a full time maid or a nanny. That would be a great Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway!

The bags were all so cute and inspiring.

  138. Trina says:

  159. Mikki says:

My DH and myself are self employed and I know exactly how you feel about being able to take a vacation. The field my DH is in though isn’t something someone else can do. So when he doesn’t work he doesn’t get paid.

But it has it’s blessings too. So glad you had a nice time away.

Count me in for the free fabric!

  160. Lucky you for having great co-workers! The bags are so beautiful, I want to make them myself. Very inspiring.

  161. katie says:

Well, I just found this blog, so I feel kind of guilty that my first comment is during a contest! But I see lots of familiar “faces” here. I loved looking at all of the bags. Beautiful. And also, as a small business owner too, I know exactly the vacation dilemma. My husband does most of the work, which is easier on me in the day-to-day, but when I want him to take a vacation, it’s very hard. And like you said, almost not even worth it. But, maybe after we have been in business a while longer, it will get easier.

  162. MaryBeth says:

The bags were awesome. Very talented ladies!

  163. jennalou says:

I totally know what you mean!! Vacations is actually more like constant panic that I’m going to miss some huge opportunity or my customers will be mad cause their stuff isn’t getting shipped…. not that I don’t warn them in several different ways… but you always get a few who didn’t “know”.

Not that I need anymore fabric… but here’s to good luck.

  164. Sandy says:

The bags are awesome – thanks for providing access to so much great inspirational people and projects.

  165. Becca says:

I am new to sewing, and I love reading your blog! It makes me so excited to learn and sew more. Thank you, thank you!! 🙂
