Free Fabric Friday

on October 12 | in Contests & Giveaways, Products | by | with 171 Comments

True confessions time.  I am a complete sucker for ’30s and ’40s reproduction fabrics.  I always have to control my urge to buy mountains of bolts of wee little duck and shepherd girl prints because a) not everyone (most sane people) love them as much as I do; b) they are usually such small prints that they don’t translate well online and c) they are usually such small prints that they don’t make much of an impact on bags, clothing, etc.

Imagine my glee when Marcus Brothers came out with Aunt Grace Ties One On–problems b and c solved!  These are large-scale Aunt Grace prints, perfect for aprons, skirts, kids clothes and more!

Check out the whole collection. Be sure to click through to the individual product pages to see a ruler for scale.  (Note:  There are a few fantastic coordinating dot prints in this group that are small-scale.  Again, see the ruler.)

Did you see the recent Flickr Features?  We are so proud that our main SMS photo pool has grown to over 1000 members!  The work just seems to be getting more and more stunning.  Visit this week’s feature and last week’s feature for some amazing inspiration.  Comment anywhere in the blog for your chance to win one yard of fabric ($9.10 or less).  Winners will be announced Monday.  Have a great weekend!

The ruler for scale is a GREAT idea. I wish that more online fabric sellers would think of this! (And not even just for wovens–for some of the fabric places where I buy my knits, it’s hard to tell from the photo what scale a print or pattern is.)

  133. Keri says:

I like the reproduction fabrics too. Besides, I never has as much luck at the thrift stores/garage sales as some people do (lucky ducks!) so this is the next best thing to actually getting my hands on some of the “old” stuff. 🙂
