February 22 ~ Quilt of the Day

By Michelle, greetingarts

Michelle designed this pinwheel variation for the Doll Quilt Swap. She wrote about the process and design on her greetingarts blog, and you can see more views in her quilting photo set. Michelle very generously offered to share her template in a Whirlygiggles Tutorial on her blog! Her design ties in so nicely with today’s block-along. Thank you, Michelle!

Michelle writes, “I’d seen a quilt similar to that in a book or magazine years ago, when I first started quilting and didn’t have much of a stash. I didn’t buy the book, but always had the idea of the one patch in my mind, so when the Doll Quilt Swap came along, I had a couple of trial and errors and then developed a template based on a simple square. By then, six years or so later, I had PLENTY of scraps! I hand pieced and hand quilted the whole thing (I find hand piecing MUCH MORE soothing than machine sewing), and had an absolute blast putting it all together and picking the rainbow colors and neutral backgrounds from my scrap bins.”
