My mother has a Novum Mark 111 de luxe sewing machine. She has not used it for a couple of years and has forgotten how ro thread it.
I wonder if it is possible to download a manual from any site.

  3. StephanieH. says:

this is an awesome resource for beginning and advanced sewers. I learned to sew on my mom’s Bernina 830. Then she bought the kids a Singer, It broke after only 3 years. Her Bernina 830 is almost as old as me and still going strong. I purchased a used Bernina 1006 and love it. I sew hours and hours a week

I bought a Morhand sewing machine at a garage sale and so far i can’t find anything about it. It is old because it has foot operation but still it is in excellent shape. Does any one know any thing about this machine? PLease contact me a

VERY helpful. I bookmarked it too!!

  8. Niki Marusich says:

Thank you so much – this is going to be really helpful! I particularly agree with Claire Kennedy who recommended automatic tension as a feature. Definately something to consider for those of us who are considered ‘tensionally challenged’!

  25. Holee says:

What a great list to have on hand! I can’t believe I am the only one with a singer 301A slant needle. It’s the same as a feather weight 221 (which I also have), but it has so much more power because it’s gear driven.

I am pea green over some of the machines you gals have! Guess it just wasn’t meant to be and I’ve managed to sew up a storm with what I do have for many years! Thanks for this well put together list!

  26. Bethany says:

Wow! Thank you to all those who so willingly shared about their machines! And also a big thank you for putting together such a fantastic and helpful list! This is amazing!

  27. Ambimom says:

Yikes, fabulous list! Very impressive….except none of mine are on it LOL!
Ya think I shoulda filled out questionnaire?

Elna Carina SU66, purchased December 1983 for approximately $600 new on which I’ve sewn coats, suits, dolls, nightgowns, handbags, dresses and drapes. Recently refurbished, I sew on it only occasionally these days but made a few purses, some pincushions, and a couple of blouses this past Christmas. I love this machine more than any other. It was state-of-the-art when I bought it. The air foot controller pedal allows me to adjust the speed of my sewing to the finest degree. It’s very difficult to find mechanics who know how to tune it and parts are a nightmare, but I love it.

Viking 400, purchased April 1996, approximately $600 new on which I’ve sewn drapes, curtains, clothing, aprons, crafts, suits, jackets, This is my go-to machine but in the past few years is used maybe 10 or 15 times a year, mostly for alterations and repairs. The built-in stitches, especially the darning, are a real help. I put the 25-year warranty to the test last year, and sure enough Husqvarna factory service adjusted my machine FOR FREE!

I’ve also got a Pfaff Calendra that I bought for $70-used when I was in college but it hasn’t been used in over 30 years, and a couple of cheap ($250+), basic sergers that I use all the time and are perfectly adequate, but are difficult to thread and don’t have many features. I just use them to finish seams mostly.

  28. tanja says:

    Wow! Great list!

I just wondered I am the only one sewing with Ikea! Or the only one brave enough to tell? 😉
