  23. Andrea says:

She does amazing work. I love her quilts. I only hand sew my bindings, as that’s all I know there is to do? It’s very calming for me, especially after the tension and “race” to get the machine quilting done. I can finally sit in front of the telly, with tea and my handsewing to do, and it’s relaxing.

  28. BeckyS says:

That is a gorgeous quilt! The workmanship is amazing.
My grammy always made her quilts completely by hand and it never ceased to amaze me. The hand-pieced tops that she hand-quilted and then bound by hand (even when her friends were all using their machines to do the bindings). Such a labor of love! I never understood why she did it.. until I knit my first pair of socks. And then I started handsewing everything too. My machine has sat lonely and neglected ever since…

  56. Kelli says:

I always think it’s nice after making the entire quilt on the machine to take the last step of sewing down the binding by hand. I can sit and watch TV with my family and finish the quilt (almost always a gift for someone I love) while I think about the recipient. Hand sewing may not be my forte or the part I like best, but it is a really nice way to finish up a gift of love.
    PS LOVE the triangle quilt!

Wow! Such beautiful quilts! (and bindings too!) I have always hand-sewn my bindings – once I was still sewing the binding on a quilt on route to the baby shower where the quilt was a gift. I could have machine-sewed it when I was running out of time, but I love the look of the hand-sewn binding so much better. (I finished it just as we pulled into the driveway – phew!). I’m loving the daily dose of inspiration – thanks Sew, Mama, Sew!

Hand binding the last and final step to a quilt. I sort of cringe at this step but I do get it done and it is very rewarding. Sitting with the quilt on your lap you can have time to soak up all the effort and beauty you have put into it.
