Red Patchwork Pocket Furoshiki by Mich, myfuroshiki
Mich wrote a little more about this furoshiki, “…noting how the patchwork is sewn across the diagonals onto a calico backing so, when knotted into a bag, the patchwork forms external pockets.” Furoshiki are traditional Japanese wrapping cloths.
Here’s a great tutorial from Mai, and here’s a link to a PDF that shows how to fold furoshiki. Do you use fabric to wrap gifts? Share links, favorite tutorials and related blog posts in the comments!

Well done Mich, a patchwork furoshiki! Love it! I have to admit it’s nicer than new ones and there is nothing nicer than a handmade present!
What a fabulous way to use scraps. Love that you thought to use them with Furoshiki!!! I will be trying this! Thank you for sharing!
How clever. I love the idea of the patchwork creating a pocket – to stick the card in or a little note….
Very interesting!
This is so pretty and I love the pockets!
Hey, super cool idea! I’m thinking it’s a great way to use Christmas scraps to wrap presents this year!
Very cool!!
I’ve just started wrapping gifts with fabric recently. I was inspired by some of my daughter’s books about Japan that showed some simple methoods of tying it around gifts very prettily. I did all of her birthday gifts like that and she was thrilled. She loved getting a few yards of pretty new fabric along with her gifts. I loved not having scraps of wrapping paper all over after her big day.
I’ve use fabric bags but never wrapped with fabric. I love learning new things.
love it!
this looks interesting.
So cute!
Oh yes! So cute, and really environmentally friendly!
Super cute I love the colors
I LOVE this! I’ve begun wrapping presents with vintage linens but would love to do something like this as well.
