Wedding Invitations by Kelly, kellyink

Kelly writes, “My husband and I both have connections to fabric; he has quite a few quilters on his side, and my parents have worked in the garment industry for more than 30 years. I am also related to several capable seamstresses (whose ranks I hope to one day join– I am just an OK sewist) and spent much of my childhood on the factory sewing room floor. So, we decided to incorporate fabric into our invites and I raided both of our parents’ stashes to find a collection of coordinating prints for a fall wedding. We used fabric in other ways for the actual wedding– The barn where we had our reception was decorated with 15 or so family quilts, many created by my husbands’ grandmothers. I also used the fabric from our wedding outfits for our caketopper, and my mother-in-law quilted a tablecloth for our cake table (which is now a lovely finished quilt to remember the day by).”

You can see pictures from Kelly’s beautiful wedding here. Kelly was inspired by some fabric pockets she saw at Bird & Banner, and writes that she found a ton of inspiration on the internet as she planned her wedding!

Weddings are such a perfect time to incorporate family themes and really make it special for everyone. What great ideas. We didn’t have anything nearly this great–but we did have one of my husband’s grandmother’s large pineapple doilies on the cake table and the crocheted name my great-grandmother made for us on display. I carried a handkerchief she’d crocheted an edging on as well.
