on March 3 | in Products, Sewing Tutorials + Patterns | by | with 71 Comments

We’re thrilled to share that Jennifer Casa from JCasa *handmade is joining us for a monthly fabric focus, starting today! Each month Jennifer has a new project featuring one of our latest, favorite collections from the shop. You can find more from Jennifer on her beautiful blog, of course, and she also sells a variety of sewing patterns, knitting patterns and handmade goods in her shop. Today Jennifer is giving away two kits to make these notebooks, so visit JCasa *handmade to enter to win and then come back to download your free Back-to-School Notebook tutorial. Enjoy!

Hello! I am delighted to be joining you for Sew,Mama,Sew!’s monthly fabric focus. We are in the midst of quite the snowy winter here in Ohio, but Moda’s bright and cheery fabrics have me dreaming of springtime, longer days, warmer weather, sunny skies and all that good stuff.

I am especially loving Dizzy White, with its vibrant colors and happy little flowers-– picture it in a patchwork picnic blanket combined with sky blues and crisp whites, or how about some fresh new pillows with a bit of grassy green and sunny yellow appliqué. Are your wheels turning?

To highlight just how well some of these new Moda prints get along, I’ve created a tutorial for my all-time favorite Back-to-School Notebook. My hope is that you will get some ideas as to combining these great prints as well as learn a little patchwork technique along the way.

This quilted patchwork cover fits a classic standard composition notebook and features a pen sleeve on the spine. In the tutorial, you’ll find complete instructions for two versions of the notebook as well as ideas to embellish and personalize it further.

For this project I have combined Dizzy White, Lollipops Pink, Dots Pink and Dots Orange from the Oz collection by Sanae with Breezy Budding Pink and Stripe Dewdrop from the Verna collection by Kate Spain. I’ve also incorporated some of the Essex Linen/Cotton Blend as well as some of Girl Friday’s Writing Paper Plain for some whimsical embroidery. This is happy stuff, I tell you.

So what are you waiting for? Download the tutorial and get started! Enjoy + happy making! xoxo

I love the look of these patchwork notebooks. I’ve downloaded the tutorial three times now and am continually getting an error “file damaged”. I also have clicked the link to open from the page rather than to do the right click/save as and am getting the same thing.

Anyone have any ideas? I’d love to have this tutorial. Given all the comments it seems that I must be the only one not able to open this tut. Strange.
