Sewn by Kathryn, Les Petits Anglais
Pattern: Reversible Coat Pattern #11 from Ottobre 01/05
Fabric: PUL with Cotton Poplin lining
Kathryn writes, “The only tip I can give, I think, is that you can use PUL to make garments other than nappy covers. I’ve done snow-pants for both my children and they were very effective in last year’s mammoth (for the UK) snowfalls. In our current beautiful weather I haven’t been able to give the raincoat a proper road test but I think it should be at least shower-proof. I used the reversible coat pattern #11 from Ottobre 01/05 and, as you’d expect from Ottobre, it goes together beautifully…
For sewing PUL, it helps enormously if you use a fine ballpoint needle and sew s-l-o-w-l-y! Keep pins to a minimum (for obvious reasons!) and make sure you pin in the seam allowance wherever possible. A walking foot will make the whole process so much easier– I’m not sure I’d want to tackle even a nappy cover without one.”
You can see the back view of the jacket and learn more about Kathryn’s experience with the pattern on her blog. It’s great fun to look through Kathryn’s sewing for her children on her blog; she uses lots of great Ottobre patterns. Don’t forget: You can enter to win a subscription to Ottobre this month!
