I’ve been using Aurifil 50wt for hand and machine piecing – it’s a lovely thread. I have two cones from Essential threads and I really love it – too bad they won’t ship internationally so I could order some more! I’ve hand quilted with King Tut, and Yli, and they are lovely as well. Soon I will be trying out some wools and other threads to play with…and so I keep learning!

  2. Esther says:

I use Cadena Coton 100% cotton

  3. Carole Lee says:

Currently I am using Aurofil and Essential Threads. Love both brands. Mainly use neutrals for piecing quilts but love to match or contrast for machine quilting.

  4. Marian says:

My favorite is Aurifil. For general sewing, machine piecing, applique, machine quilting. I’d say it’s my go-to thread!

  5. cindy says:

I love my threat collection and it all started when my mother a seamstress let me go through her stash. I would rewind and straighten up her box of threads. I prefer to match to fabric from my existing collection. But, I have to admit I have bought a spool because of the love of the color (no project in mind at the time of purchase).

  6. Danielle says:

I can use Coats and Clark on my Brother machine with no problem. I have to use Guetermann with my Pfaff. If the staple of cotton is too short in the twist of the thread, the guides in the machine are like nails on a chalkboard.

  7. Mary says:

I too love the Essential Thread from Connecting Threads, Aurofils, and use a variety. One fo the prettiest spots in the store, the thread racks, so orderly and shiny!

  8. Fran says:

I do a lot of applique and use either silk thread in neutral colors or Aurifil.
When I piece or do other sewing I use a neutral color. Your new threads
    are very tempting….love those boxes.

  9. Jeanette says:

My favorite thread is Essential Thread from Connecting Threads. They have great prices and I love the colors. I havent had any problems with it. Plus I can buy sets so I have thread for any project I want to do. I do like neutrals and seem to use them up first.

  10. AnitaT says:

I use a variety of threads – mostly because I want to try different brands and see how they work out with my quilting. I’ve recently purchased some Aurafil but haven’t used it yet. I often use thread from Connecting Threads or Coats & Clarks for piecing, although I haven’t been buying any of the C & C lately (just using up what I already had).

  11. Chris says:

I use Aurifil for piecing and quilt with King Tut on top and bottom line in the bobbin. I have a few cones of Signature as well.

  12. Becky says:

I borrow and trade with friends for thread color I dont have.

  13. BethG says:

I use alot of neutrals, but I also love to buy coordinating thread for top stitching, etc. on projects! Love Amy Butler and Kaffe Fassett Fabrics!
    b.

  14. Jody says:

I am hoping that as I keep buying thread for new projects I will eventually stash enough to have a good supply on hand.

  15. Renee says:

My “other” selection was for the hand quilting thread that I love for hemming, hand applique, and quilting. It’s Americana.

  16. Kathleen says:

I am still a novice at quilting, but I tend to buy thread as I need for the project I am working on.

  17. Kristin L says:

I love Superior Threads. I have some pretty Sulky from long ago, and Gütermann seems easiest to come by. When I lived in Europe and couldn’t get superior easily, Aurifil was a great equivalent. I buy warm, cool, light, and dark neutrals since that’s pretty much what my fabric stash it, but I need a range of blues and a good red too. I can’t sew red fabric with anything other than red thread. If a project is predominantly one color or family, then I’ll go out and buy specific thread.

  18. Melanie says:

I’m new at sewing… Who knew there was so much to say about thread?!

  19. Joanne says:

I have started buying Aurifil thread and love it!

  20. I love quilting with Superior Threads however I just bought a bunch of Valdani threads – they have such beautiful varigations (spelling) of colors, but it’s not a real smooth thread and I have to fight it most of the time. But the look is worth it on some projects. I love to piece with Aurifil.

  21. Munaiba says:

I use Presencia. Tre Stelle and Aurifil as well as Guterman, Sulky and sometimes, for hand quilting, Perle 8

  22. Jackiw says:

I love buying new thread even though I don’t often have a project in mind. My local store carries C&C which by default I end up buying.

  23. Linda says:

Love THREADS! Just observing them in their beautiful shades in a basket is nice! I usually use Mettler’s Silk thread. I’m new to quilting and indeed would love to buy more thread. I need to increase my “Thread Stash”! Thanks for sharing!

  24. Sigrid says:

I love thread. I don’t buy C&C anymore because the yardage is so much smaller than Gutterman. I have a pretty big stash of thread, but I save the empty spools from my favorite and most used colors and then use the color code number to re-stock when I see thread on sale.

  25. Kourtney says:

One of my professors in design school always told us to use Gueterman or Mettler and nothing else! I firmly live by this rule… most of the time :)

  26. I prefer Guetermann thread. However, when the cost of projects is adding up, I’ll grab some Coats and Clark to keep cost down. Based on other responses, perhaps I need to check out Connecting Threads.

  27. Elizabeth says:

    i also like Mettler Metrosene.

  28. Linda says:

I default to what is available at the local fabric store, which is C&C and gutterman, I prefer the Gutterman. I would love to try Aurifil, but getting it is the problem.

  29. Marcia W. says:

I’ve also purchased Mettler silk hand quilting thread which is expensive and so wonderful to use.

  30. Cindy says:

I really like YLI Variegated–My favorite Quilt shop carries it–but I would love to try some of the others mentioned–even if I have to go online to get it!

  31. Doris says:

    LOVE Aurifil….

  32. Christine says:

I’ve bought the majority of my thread from Connecting Threads this past spring. Before that I mostly bought Gutermann. The spools always seemed too small with Gutermann and Connecting Threads spools are 1,200 yards and better for my budget!

  33. TPino says:

KingTut is my fav for quilting. Presencia is my fav for piecing. Regular sewing I use Coats & Clark.

  34. Erin Gustafson says:

I like the Connecting Threads thread. The packs are a great value.

  35. beth says:

I am finding I really should buy more thread just to have on hand so that when I pull something out of my stash to sew with, I don’t have to run out to the fabric store to get thread.

  36. Isobel says:

I always make sure I have plenty of black and white thread, and while I do try to minimise the nmber of ever-so-slightly different colours I hvae by using an ‘old’ thread even if it’s not quite perfect, sometimes I succumb and have to buy new exactly perfect thread.

  37. Melissa S says:

I buy Presencia whenever I can get my hands on it. It’s from Spain and I think it’s by far the best. Otherwise I use Guttermann’s.

  38. Ginger says:

For my “other” I really like the thread from connectingthreads.com

  39. Lynn says:

My “other” thread choice is Aurifil. I love that it doesn’t shed as much as other cottons. And yard for yard, it is cheaper than the other threads I buy but as good or better quality.

  40. ~Helena~ says:

I tend to more neutrals, but I have been using up Grandma thread, which come in all colors.

  41. Katrina says:

I usually use mettler or guterman since that’s what my local shop mostly sells.

  42. Paula says:

I love Aurifil, and use the 50/2 for all my piecing and machine applique.

  43. georgia says:

I can’t find Dual Duty Poly/cotton any more (they don’t make it if I understand corretly) and very few stores carry the 100% cotton variety. I hate the new Dual Duty 100% polyester. ARGH!!

Thread. It is my sewing soap box.

  44. Emily Dawn says:

I really just use whatever looks the best for my project, whether that is new or old and whatever brand the store has that matches the best. So I’m really not picky at all.

  45. I have used Mettler for years, but I’ve tried Aurifil recently, and my machine just did beautifully. I’ve quilted with King Tut variegated, and when I learned I should be using a 90/14 needle and Bottom Line in the bobbin, it was wonderful. I probably would use Aurifil and Superior threads way more if it were convenient to buy them close to my house. I try to use my stash when I can, but I don’t have a huge, huge thread collection. I know I could use more neutrals, but I love the colors when it matches my fabric. Jean

  46. Gerwerken says:

My preference is Guetermann because it is widely available, reasonably priced, and good quality. C&C and Sulky tend to break in my antique machines. I also generally sew with cotton thread because I generally sew cotton fabric, but I try to match the thread material with the fabric material.

  47. Jennifer says:

I like using Guetermann thread but I wish the spools came with more yardage…they run out so quickly and it seems as if I’m always right in the middle of a project when it happens!

  48. Other for me is a strong addiction to Presencia for quilting.

  49. Linda says:

I love Aurifil if I can find it. It is strong, fine, and almost no lint.

  50. Lis Harwood says:

My favourite thread is AURIFIL, it’s delicious to look at and to use!

  51. Krystina says:

I also use YLI for quilting.

  52. Ruth says:

I’m very new to quilting and I’m still in the experimental stage but I can tell you that my machine doesn’t like Coats and Clarke and works much better with 100% cotton thread. I’ve been using DMC lately and been happy with it

  53. Lori Kay says:

Here’s my Other choice – I use Aurifil thread for piecing and sometimes for machine quilting. The thread is fine so a lot fits onto my bobbin – fewer breaks from sewing to rewind the bobbin!

  54. DianeY says:

I don’t get a whole lot of thread choices where I live, but maybe it’s the same elsewhere because I noticed my top 2 choices were the highest vote getters. Thread can get pricey so if my machine is happy, then I’m happy!

  55. sherri says:

I’ve been loving Presencia thread…used to use aurifil and superior…but absolutely stay with presencia now!

  56. Vicki K says:

Actually, I buy matching colored thread for specific projects and neutral thread when it is on sale!

  57. Jeanne says:

I use YLI Select for most of my machine piecing. For hand piecing, my favorite is YLI Heirloom Cotton.

  58. Christina says:

I really don’t like C&C. For quilting I love Aurifil and YLI

  59. Sequana says:

How could you not have Superior Threads as one of the main choices there? And when I chose “other” you didn’t let me say what other….

    • Kristin says:

EDITED. SORRY FOR THE OVERSITE. I’M GLAD YOU USED THE COMMENTS FOR “OTHER”.

  60. Sarah Z. says:

As a newer sewist, I really need to build my thread stash. It is a good thing I like contrast because I often don’t have just the right color to match my project. Still struggling with when to use cotton or poly…

  61. Julia P. says:

I quit using C&C after it disintegrated on me in some clothes I made (After some years, but still). I’ve never had that problem with Gutermann. I’ve actually had the fabric disintegrate on some items, and the thread stay intact.

  62. Penny says:

The second poll will only let you pick one option at a time.

  63. Deborah says:

I use Guterman for my applique projects but Coats & Clark for my general sewing. Would like to win the thread offered to see how it compares.

  64. Staci says:

Your instructions say up to 3 choices for the thread can be made, but when you hit the vote button it says maximum number of choices is 1.

  65. Sandra Dennison says:

I was only allowed one choice on the thread.

  66. Rachel says:

I switched from Coats and Clark to Guetermann about a year ago. A think C&C changed their product, but maybe that’s my imagination.

  67. Deb Cameron says:

Awesome giveaway, beautiful thread! Love Kaffe Fassett’s colour, he is truly a master of design!

  68. Anya says:

My most favorite threads come from Superior Threads…Sew Fine, Bottom Line and Rainbows…
