Call for Submissions ~ Back to School

on July 5 | in Contributors | by | with 14 Comments

When we asked for Summer Sewing proposals we were blown away by your creativity and quality of the submissions. We had so much fun we want to do it again, this time for a mini-theme in August: Back to School!

Send us your unique, never-published, “WOW!” Back to School tutorial idea. If we think it’s a good fit we’ll work with you to share it with our readers. As with our Summer Sewing tutorials, August’s Back to School tutorials will get over 250,000 unique visitors. We’ll try to send as many as possible your way with an introduction to you and your work. It’s a great way to expose your blog, shop, etc. to new readers and to get your name “out there.”

Back to School Pencil Cases by LiEr from our archives.

If you’re interested in submitting a tutorial idea we have the same criteria as last time:

  • Email [email protected] by Friday night, 7/8, Subject line: Back to School.
  • Share your idea, including a photo (or photos). Include links to your site(s), and tell us where we can find any tutorials or patterns you’ve shared in the past. We want to know you can give clear instructions and take good photos! Check our Sewing Tutorials page to make sure we don’t already have a similar project, and also use Google to be sure your idea is unique (We’re sure to check too– It’s important to us that content be fresh and new). Also, check out our last Back to School theme to be sure your idea is new. It cannot be a tutorial you already have posted on your site.

Details:

  • We’ll review all submissions and respond (either way) by Monday, 7/11.
  • Tutorials will be posted on the Sew,Mama,Sew! blog only, with an introduction to you and your work, and lots of links to send folks your way.
  • Back to School can mean lots of different things! Tell us in the comments what types of tutorials you’d like to see…

GIVEAWAYS!
We’d love to help promote your small businesses during August. If you’d like to sponsor a product giveaway, send us an email. We’ll review it and see if it is a good fit with our theme and our readers.

  • Email [email protected] by Monday, 7/11 with your name, shop and relevant links.
  • Include a photo and description of the item you’d like to give away. (Minimum $20 value, please.)

  1. I LOVE the pencil case. Sewing is such a beautiful art and it is so sad that people have stopped doing it so much!

Thanks for giving your ideas right here. The other thing is that if a problem comes up with a laptop motherboard, people should not take the risk involving repairing this themselves because if it is not done right it can lead to permanent damage to the whole laptop. It is usually safe to approach the dealer of your laptop for your repair of the motherboard. They’ve technicians who may have an know-how in dealing with notebook computer motherboard issues and can have the right diagnosis and execute repairs.

ummm book covers. maybe composition book covers for kids who journal.
    wall organizers?
i’d really like a tutorial for “backseat organizers” for college students with long commutes. i need to make a mini “office max” in my car for my junior year and would like an organizer in the back seat or trunk…

I’d love to see a good, sturdy lunch tote. Some great tutorials are out there, but they don’t have a generous enough sizing for reusable sandwich and snack containers and drink bottles (like Nalgene or Camelback).

  6. Christine says:

I love back to school time. So many

  7. Logan says:

I’d love to see tutorials for older kids… I’m in middle school and I usually find that tutorial projects are meant for young kids. It would be great if I could find some back to school tutorials that I could actually make for myself (and enjoy!)

Did you know that some of us start school back at the beginning of August? Maybe next year you can do a back to school edition in July?

  9. Eleonora says:

good idea!Back to school…I’m not so good at sewing to send my works…but I’m sure I’ll find and copy a lot of smart ideas sent by other able sewer!!! :-) like these pencil cases! They are nice, and useful for my office work!

  10. Katie Amelie says:

Those pouches are absolutely adorable! There never seem to be enough pencil pouch patterns out anywhere though! I’m in high school and what always bugs me about pencil pouches is that they usually only have one compartment, I would love to see a pattern out where the pencil pouch was split into two or three compartments.

  11. Suzanne says:

Can a girl have too many fun pouches? I think not!

  12. nik kamisah says:

The polkadot pencil case are so sweet with wonderful colours

  13. Christine says:

Very smart idea! As back to school means back to kindergarten as well, I would like to see some ideas for kindergarten bags… Our youngest starts Kindergarten this year and I haven’t sewn him his bag yet… Thanks for the excellent job you all do, I’m excited to see what you come up with :o)

  14. Ellen says:

I’d love to see some tutorials for parents going back to school, how about a trendy and sturdy laptop bag and laptop cover, in addition to an over the shoulder sturdy (messenger type) bag. We all know how heavy those college books are!
