Sandra from Sugar Cubes and Spice Cake is up next with another fun Back to School tutorial, but first we want to be sure you head over to her blog for lots of fun sewing inspiration. Sandra makes beautiful things for her daughters, like the great skirts pictured here! Sandra always has great tips about a pattern too; she shares what works and what she’s changed to work better (like this recent sun hat from a free pattern). Visit Sandra at Sugar Cubes and Spice Cake and come back for her Back to School tutorial!

From Sandra: My name is Sandra DeBary. I’m a wife, mother, daughter, sister, full-time HR professional, and avid seamstress. I have two beautiful daughters, and I love to sew for them, but the secret is that I’m really doing it for myself as much as for them. Sewing is my outlet, my stress relief, and my “me-time.” I’m a fearless seamstress, crafter, and do-it-yourself-er, and I’m willing to try almost anything at least once. I spend most of my limited free time sewing the girls’ clothes, making purses and wallets for my friends and family, and knocking off outfits or products that I’d rather make than buy. In a previous life, I was a teacher, and I love to pass along my love of sewing to anyone who will listen or read.

  1. This can be a proposal of very politically uncorrect reply – an achieved musician is not really a matter of accomplishment – it’s a issue of deep nature – your ears, your brain, your genetic code are in query – but then i would say that you are accomplished much before you begin learning – then of course you have to work even if a genious – but then all is currently done – at the opposite if unfortunately you sing wrong, have no ear, misunderstand music, no chemical, no treatment, no kick in the a..

Hi Sandra! Wow, I love the energy I feel from you. Are you local? (Freeport and vicinity?) I used to sew for my children when they were small, but now they’ve grown and my sewing is mainly quilt making. My projects are for people I love and care about. I am also a writer. Anyway, I’ve taken on a project I could use a little help on. It’s for my son-in-law who is a really special person. There’s a character in a children’s book “The Dream Keeper,” that he would like to be on Halloween when he takes the kids out trick or treating. I’m trying to recreate that costume for him, but don’t feel quite confident in what I’m doing. I would love some suggestions, help whatever. I would really like to do this well for Eric. He is always doing wonderful thoughtful things for my daughter and the kids. Thanks!

Sometimes the name of someone’s blog or shop gives a very good idea of who they are–I think Sandra’s Sugar Cubes and Spice Cake is a perfect example. So glad to be introduced to her!
