Sewing For Boys ~ Review + Giveaway

on September 5 | in Products | by | with 741 Comments

Shelly Figueroa and Karen LePage, co-owners of the ever-popular Patterns by Figgy’s sewing patterns, created the book I’ve been wishing for ever since my son was born almost six years ago! Their new Sewing For Boys has 24 projects to create a handmade wardrobe, with full-size patterns included for all of the clothing pieces. Everything is in here, from pants and pajamas to jackets, shirts and rompers for the little guys. Sizing goes from three months to seven years, and the clothes take you through all of the seasons (Swim shorts? Check! Coat? Check!)

My son and I eagerly looked through the book when it arrived and he had a huge wish list by the time we were done. I, too, want to make every piece of clothing in the book. Really. Every clothing pattern in the book. They’re all solid designs– Classic, with well thought-out details and clean lines.

Two-In-One Jacket + Little Heartbreaker Pants on the left, Just-Like-Dad Flannel Robe on the right.

Shelly and Karen give great tips throughout the pattern instructions, and construction is easy. As mentioned in the book introduction, while the patterns are categorized by difficulty anyone can sew the items in the book; the patterns are highly accessible and a pleasure to sew.

Short Sleeve Raglan Tee (with Long Sleeves) + Treasure Pocket Pants on the left,
Luka Hoodie + Little Heartbreaker Pants on the right.

Two points I want to emphasize: I really feel the book is a tremendous value. You get quality, full-size patterns to sew up an entire wardrobe appropriate year-round for at least seven years! Also, the book, while a huge BIG deal for those of us who love to sew for the boys in our life, is also completely appropriate for little girls. My daughter is almost one and her wardrobe will benefit for years from this book! I see lots of cute rompers, hoodies, pants and raglan tees in our future.

Goodnight, Sweetheart PJs on the left,
Pauley’s Pullover, Kickin’ Back Sweats + Race Car Playmat on the right.

For now though top on my son’s list was the Two-In-One Jacket (next up: Just-Like-Dad Flannel Robe and Goodnight, Sweetheart PJs for a cozy fall). We got the book right before a packed weekend but with a great pattern and Shelly and Karen’s clear instructions the jacket only took about three hours to cut, sew and model!

I was intimidated by welt pockets but they seemed simple with the guidance in the book (and my son and I felt like they “made” the jacket).

Welt pocket? No problem!

Our version has Dad’s old, felted sweater as the lining and patch pockets on the inside, reused from Grandpa’s old corduroy shirt. Buttons from Great-Great-Grandma’s stash give the jacket an extra little touch of family love. With his name sewn inside he’s ready to greet kindergarten in style.

Ready for fall with some handmade goodness to keep him warm at recess.

I love Sewing For Boys! Comment today for your chance to win one of two copies of Sewing For Boys. Tell us who you’d sew for, or how happy you are to FINALLY have a book full of cute patterns for boys. Tell us about your love for Patterns by Figgy’s… Chat about sewing for the boys in your life. We’ll select winners later this week!

I’m in love with this book because when I was five months pregnant and found out I was having a boy, I scoured book stores looking for books full of things to knit, crochet, and sew for him. Unfortunately every time I found something cute it was in the middle of a book with a 2-1 or higher ratio of girl patterns to boy’s. While boy clothes can look cute on girls it doesn’t work the other way around so often.

  29. Kristina says:

  33. Maggie says:

Many things to try…as my son is six I had better get started!

I babysit this adorable baby boy during the week. He is ten days older than my little girl. I have had the hardest time finding things to make for boys and this would be PERFECT! His mother always comments on my daughter clothes and really wants me to make him some but being a mother of only a daughter it is hard to get ideas!

  61. Lynnette says:

It is SO hard to find patterns – especially cool patterns – for little boys. My 2-1/2 year old would love some new clothes sewn by Mama.

  62. Claire says:

    Hi
This book looks great and just what I would love to have, just going on maternity leave, my baby boy is due next week. I have recently got out my sewing machine and have been looking for patterns for my new baby boy and my lovely three year old boy. It would be so lovely to make some fab clothes for my boys on a budget, there is so much out there for girls but it feels that sometimes little boys are short changed. Plus I have a real little trend setter in my three year old, the latest is wearing everything back to front- wonder if it will catch on x

  63. Consuelo says:

Wish this book had come out 7 years ago as my boy is seven right now. I think it would still be used though.

It would be fab to have a book of inspiring projects for the wee man to christen my crafty space with!

I’d love this book. I have 1 little boy (nearly 2) and another on the way (due November) and there is such a paucity of boy patterns in comparison to the cute girly things (that are just as inspiring). These actually look COOL, rather than a second thought, like a lot of other boy stuff! Yay for Patterns by Figgy! :o)

  144. jen says:

My son (4 1/2), so often slides up to my sewing table to ask quietly, “who are you sewing that for?” The usual answer involves girls (sister, cousins, neighbor’s niece…). I would love for him to cruise on over and be able to answer, “for YOU!”

  211. bwilliams says:

As a Nana to 5 (6 in Dec) boys, this book would be a godsend. There are LOTS of books re sewing for girls. But like the fashion industry, the sewing market seems to think girls are the only ones who like to look good or who appreciate handmade love. I have made pants and shorts for the boys, but that is the limit so far. Asi get older find myself with more time on my hands and with the desire to create things for my family rather than buying things for them. I am also looking for ways repurpose fabrics. My last sewing project was using a pair of his shorts as a pattern for reversible pants for the youngest GS made from thrifted men’s shirts. When they came from the machine and we had him try them on, he refused to take them off. They are his favorites cause Nana made them. I would love to be able to create more of these special clothes/memories.

  212. Lynne Burnia says:

  217. nessa says:

Wow – I have been waiting for a book like this! My godson Wolfe is 15 months old, and he’s had to ‘make do’ with lots of handknits, silkscreened and appliqued shirts, and patchwork pants (aka “fancypants”) up to now. I could get a LOT of mileage out of a book like this!

  218. dian says:

what a great book and a great opportunity from your site! i’ll be glad to have a copy. my son is 2 years old and i’ll have another baby boy in less than 3 months. i’m a beginner and need to practice more in sewing. i love to make kid’s wear, they’re cute, quick and easy to make. my current projects mostly for girls and sadly i’ve only made 2 pants and a vest for my son :( i want to make more for him and his little brother. so this book is really what i need!

Figgy patterns are so awesome to work with. I have been able to make some easy and adorable basics for my boy (and girl), and I’m sure this book is mind-blowing. Sewing books specializing in boy’s clothing are too few and far between in my opinion!

  228. Nora says:

I would sew for every little boy I know. I wish I had this when my son was little. It was so fun to dress him in the sweet clothes I found for him, see his adorable little legs in his summer shorts and his little jackets in winter. I’m getting a new sewing machine this week and plan to sew, sew, sew.

  237. Melanie says:

My beautiful 3 year old boy is sandwiched between two gorgeous sisters who wear more handmade than him purely because of a lack of cool boys patterns (and a glut of amazing girls patterns!!). 250. Dorian says:

I’d love to win this for my baby boy who NEVER fits into anything store bought. He is a tiny little piece of baby and everything is either to short, too wide! I’d love to be able to know how to make things for him that actually fit and look great! Thanks for thte chance :)

  253. Zena says:

I too have three little boys (all under 4) and I love to sew for them, but how many pairs of cute pyjammies does a little guy need?! This book looks amazing, just the inspiration I need to sew them a gorgeous wardrobe! Thanks x

  255. Stephanie W says:

I am so thrilled that you introduced this book to me!! I went shopping for my 9 month old son tonight as he needs some warmer clothes, but can’t wear anything with fleece or polyester as he has eczema. This looks like a great book! Cute boy clothes! Woo hoo!
Thanks SMS for the chance to win!

  259. AP says:

It really goes up to 7-years-old? Wow! Sewing for boys is tough when you don’t feel comfortable creating your own patterns, so this would be a great addition to the sewing books I’ve been collecting. I fear my son will outgrow some of the projects I want to do before I get a chance to make them. This one looks like it has some great projects.

I have already raised 4 boys but now I have a grandson to sew for.

  265. knitsewreadlove says:

If my gut is right, I’ll be having a boy in 9 short weeks, and there are only little girl patterns around this house! And if I’m wrong, my best friend has one sweet little boy already and another one on the way; I’d love to gift this to her as well! She is actually the one who introduced me to patterns by Figgy’s… I’ve adapted some (technically) boy patterns for my very girly little girl, and though I haven’t sewn any yet, I’m looking forward to it!

  266. Emmmylizzzy says:

Even though I have a girl, and am pregnant with girl #2, there are just so many patterns that I love in here that would be great for girls as well! And I can finally have a go-to book for handmade presents for boys!

After searching (often in vane) for really classic boy’s clothes, and even more so for sewing patterns beyond PJs I would LOVE to have one of these books. My girls regularly get new customized things from me – I know the boys would feel really special to get their own creative clothes.

  290. Andrea. says:

I’m so excited for a sewing book for boys! I only have a nephew right now and need projects for him

  291. Kelly says:

  292. Beth says:

I’m always making cute twirly skirts and fun ruffles for my daughter, but my little bug is left out of the fun. How great to have classic designs for boys all in one book.

omgoodness!!!!! It’s about time our boys get some love! My little Gabriel is15 mo old and could get a ton of use from this! That jacket is too stinkin cute! Would love to win this book! It is so hard to find good boys’ clothing patterns and this looks like it fits the bill perfectly!

  296. Tawny says:

Of course I’d sew for my little boy. I actually love sewing for him because he sincerely loves everything I make for him. No “Mom this isn’t the right colour” or “Mom I won’t wear these pants” ever from that boy. He’s my #1 fan :D I’d love to have more patterns for him.

  297. Denise says:

Right now I’m sewing some reversible fall pants for my little one who’ll be 9 months in a few days. I’ve been able to cobble together a collection of go-to patterns for baby boys, and would love to have a book that doesn’t have 90% dresses in it! It looks perfect.

  298. Audrey says:

    Cute stuff!

Excited to find some great patterns for my 3 boys!

Such a great book! I’d love to sew for my two nephews. Thanks for the giveaway.

  307. Liz says:

What a great idea! I’ve always had a hard time finding cute useful patterns for my boys (2.5 year old twins) and now expecting another boy in March I definitely will get use out of this book. Not only am I apparently only good at making boys but so are all of my friends. I have 5 non family members who have boys under the age of 3 so honestly if I don’t win it I will probably be buying it eventually. Thanks for the awesome site and awesome opportunity!

Finally! How exciting to have a book just for boys! I would make anything and everything in this book for my 4 y/o who wants to know why IO only sew for Leah! Cause it’s easier ofcourse! And because I’m a sewing newbie and its just safer to start with girls…anything looks cute on girls, right? I do have a little stack of boys fabric just waiting to be cut into!

  311. Sally says:

This book is so awesome that members of my family pre-ordered copies which they lovingly devoured the day it was available! Full disclosure: my son is one of the cuties who modeled. But the instructions are well-written and clear, the designs are innovative and awesome, yet easy to execute! Love it!!!

  312. Fenna says:

would love to be able to sew some of these for my 2 boys!!!!

Yea for boys!! I have a little boy and just started sewing and there are very few things out there for our sweet boys! I’m excited to try some new patterns!

  329. R Carter says:

I’ve only been sewing for a short while, but have definitely not made ANYTHING boy yet! not even a pillow cover! Yikes. Now I feel a little bad. My four year old boy is always asking when I’m going to make something for him. So I went out and bought a few yards of different fabrics. Now to find something to make with them! This book will just be awesome!

  330. Laura says:

I’m so happy to see something other than shorts, camp shirts and rompers for boys! I’ll probably buy a copy if I don’t win!

  331. Cinnamon says:

    Yes, yes, yes! Must have!

  332. Anna says:

I’m about to have a baby boy and have looked around a lot for cute boy clothing patterns. They’re around, but hard to find. I love sewing for my daughter, and am looking forward to sewing for this little guy! Store-bought boys clothes can be so boring.

  337. Jillian says:

Love it! I was just explaining this lack of boy patterns to my husband and his response was: oh, so the clothing disparity starts early! (Don’t get him started on the uneven distribution of our local Gap.) Well we’ve got twin nephews showing up this winter and we’ve got to find a solution!

  338. Katie says:

This book looks amazing. I have two boys to sew for, one the right size for this book. It seems my girls get most of my handmade clothing, this would be great to give more to my boys.

Boy patterns that are cute? AWESOME! I have two boys of my own. 6 year old K-man, and 2 yea old Little-C. I’ve made them a few things, but their little girl friends benefit WAY more from my sewing than they do. I would LOVE to spoil them with some ‘made by mom’ goods. It would be awesome to win…but if I don’t I think I’ll be getting the book anyhow! – Thanks for the review.

  343. An says:

  348. Sandy says:

Wow wish I had this book 40+ years ago to sew for my son. He was always tall and thin; had to take darts in the waist of his pants. It will now be easy to sew for his twin sons who are tall.

  349. lee says:

I would love to sew for my nephews! thanks!

  350. kathyh says:

I don’t currently have any boys to sew for. My own son is 21 now and wants things like chalk bags for rock climbing. I made up countless patterns off of store-bought clothing for him as he was growing up because the big four pattern companies were awful in their sizing. I must have made half a dozen camo pants/ponchos in different sizes as he grew. I am excited to see that sewing for boys is getting more press time.
BTW, I love how you did the jacket for your son – re-purposing items that spell family. My own children loved it when I did this.

  351. Aubrey says:

I have one sweet son, Judah, who I’d love to be able to sew more clothes for!! So, so excited there is finally a book for boys!

  352. Filipa says:

My nephews will be thrilled, always complaining that the girls always get the good stuff!

I always make things for my daughter, and my son gets neglected! This would give me a great starting-point to making things for him.

  356. Melissa says:

Thanks for the review. This definitely looks like a great book. As a mom of a little boy, I can attest to how hard it is to find good boy patterns, and a whole book full is unheard of. That coat is adorable, and you did a great job. I can’t believe it only took 3 hours start to finish!

  364. Mary says:

Wow I am so excited to sew for my boy. I’ve made big butt baby pants for him and he’s now nearly 2 so I need to move on to some new projects and this book would be ideal, especially as he has 2 big sisters and he can’t wear their hand-me-downs! I’ve not used any patterns by Figgy’s but hear great things about them.
thanks for the chance to win.

  365. Katy says:

I work in a quilt shop and if I had a dime for every mother or grandmother of boys that say, “there just isn’t as many cute things for boys as there is for girls” I would be a rich woman. I have a 2 year old son and 3 nephews under the age of 4. If my grandparents were still alive, they would have 18 great-grandsons out of 21 great-grandchildren. I think the scales are tipped ;).

  366. Delores Wagg says:

Book looks awesome! I have two grandsons and a new grandbaby arriving soon – which may, indeed, be a third boy!! Would be great to have a book of MODERN, CUTE patterns.

I love the little jacket there, and think he will look amazing when he heads to Kindergarten this year… well done on reusing fabrics too – it always makes me happy to see things not going to waste!

  373. Laura W. says:

Thanks for the chance to win! I have a little boy named Henry so he “needs” a Henry shirt, and those Treasure pants are adorable.

  374. Beth Laske-Miller says:

I would LOVE to sew more for my son! Store-bought stuff rarely fits, and he has a wacky, offbeat personality, so custom clothing would be great for him!

  375. Christina G. says:

How exciting! My boys are 3 & 5 and I adore sewing for them. They love helping me pick patterns and material and my older one wants to learn to sew. This book would be perfect for us all. I think I’d make that awesome jacket first!

I have been waiting and waiting for this book to come out. I have two little boys of my own (18 mos and 3 1/2) and a new nephew on the way. I can’t wait to try these patterns.

I love their patterns and I NEED this book! I’m so glad it goes up to size 7.

This is so exciting! I have a feeling I’ll want to make everything in the book, too. Now we just more cute non-garish fabrics for boys…

  409. Martha says:

Wow. Finally, nice boy patterns that are tasteful.

  410. Lauren says:

    Finally!

I’ve have been experiencing intense crafters guilt on behalf of my son- his big sister has so many cute things I’ve made her! But it’s not all my fault- there are so many more projects out there for girls (patterns, tutorials, toys, fabrics…).

  411. BeccaMcK says:

Please pick me. I am a mother of two boys who is sick of seeing all the adorable clothes books for girls (although I do have 4 adorable nieces that benefit from these.) I would love to be able to make my little guys something other than elastic waist pants. Great idea and so happy to see someone has been listening to our requests for more cute boy patterns.

  412. Wendy says:

This is a must have, even if I don’t win it! I just gave birth to my son 3 weeks ago. He has two older sisters that I’ve been sewing for since they were born. I’m wracking my brain about what to make for him with some of the cute “boy” fabric I have, and I keep coming up blank! Pick me!

  413. MollyP says:

Love it! So excited to see a boy-based book that is way more practical and cool than cutesy. Thanks!

  423. Alicia says:

I would just love to sew my little guy clothes from this book! I’m so tired of the same old dinosaur, robot, etc clothes you find in stores. I have such fun sewing for my little girl and I need some ideas and inspiration for sewing for my boy.

  424. Kylie C says:

My sister just had a baby boy, the first little one in the family in 15 years. I’m a crafter and it’s been so difficult to find boy things to create- tutorial list always have dozens of skirts and dresses but only one or two boy outfits. I’m so glad to find this book. Thank you for the review.

I’m sooo glad this book is out! I have five g-daughters who I love sewing for, but finding something to sew for my three g- sons is much harder. I’ve done rompers for the little ones, but the five year old is past that point. I really like that some of these patterns would be good for beginners. Although I love to sew I’m not supper accomplished yet, and with eight grands I try to stick to simple stuff so I can make each of them something without it taking forever to do so.

I really love this site! I am always inspired by visiting here!

  441. JJ says:

  454. Brandy says:

I love this! I struggle coming up with wearable projects for my son. The blogworld is full of projects for girls. Boys are harder to come by!

This weekend, I stopped by the nearby chain fabric store to take advantage of their pattern sale ($.99 for McCalls this time). They had a total of 3 McCalls clothing patterns for boys and one of those was unisex pjs! I was pretty disappointed. I would love to win this book. My four year old will be very excited! (as will I!)

AHHHHHH!!!!!! I’m so freaking excited about this book!!!!! (can you guess) I have a little boy, only 3 1/2 months, but finding good stuff to sew for him, and hte right fabrics and patterns is so frustrating. It seems that the sewing world is all for girls and women, including hte hobby, the fabrics and the patterns. 556. Jayne says:

What a great book! I am sure there is a huge market out there for boy things. There was years and years and years ago when my son was small…..good luck with this!

  557. Holly U says:

Yay! A book for BOYS! So needed. I have a Patterns by Figgy pattern and it’s great. This book will be on my Christmas list.

With my 4th grandson on the way, I am always on the look out for cute sewing projects for my little guys. This book looks like just the thing I need to gear them up right!

Finally–a sewing book for boys clothes! I have a 4-year-old son and am always disappointed with the clothing selection in stores and the limited patterns to choose from. I chose not to find out the sex of my baby before he was born, but was convinced he was a girl. For 9 months I dreamed of all the cute dresses, etc. I would soon sew. Imagine my surprise when “she” turned into a he! I’ve checked out all the books the library has on sewing for children, and they are all skewed toward girls’ clothing. I’ve had some success browsing online, but I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a book chock-full of clothes for my little man!

  577. Heather J. says:

I have been anxiously awaiting this book since I first heard about it last spring. I’m so excited to finally get my hands on a copy–would love to win one!

  579. Suzanne says:

My 2 sons need longer tops than bottoms so handmade PJs are a must (and preferred by both). I’d love to sew for them rather than hoping Grandma has time in her busy schedule. And I know the patterns in this book are way cooler than anything I can try to whip up from existing clothing. :) I also have several friends with 2 boys that will appreciate handmade items.

  580. susan hwang says:

i haveee to have this book – it has such classic designs! thanks for the giveaway!

Two grandsons (2 month old and 2 year old) are the reason I would sew these amazing patterns! Stores have so much for girls and so little for boys! My search has ended!! Hooray!

  593. Joan J says:

I am SO delighted to see a book FINALLY about sewing for boys. I’m a grandmother to a 5 yr old boy and a 2 week old girl, and already I’ve sewn 10 times more outfits for the baby girl, simply because I can’t find anything worth sewing for the boy! You can only create so many pajama bottom style pants! Most of the store-bought patterns result in a piece of clothing I could buy at Wally-World for half the price, so it’s not worth the effort. I’m already loving the little corduroy shirt jacket. This book is going to be a MUST HAVE for me!

  594. Jess says:

    Wow, that jacket is amazing!!!!

I have two boys; unfortunately my eldest is too big for this book now (he wears a size 8-10), but I have a 2yo who would get a LOT of new wardrobe items out of a book like this!!!

    Jess

  600. Egle says:

I’m so glad there is such book. I have two boys 4 and 1,5 years old. This summer tried to sew pants and ties for the wedding. Great boy patterns! I am really looking forward to checking this book out!

  609. Kathe G says:

So long overdue! I remember making shirts for my dad – 6’5″ – and had to lengthen so that he would finally have shirts that fit. My nephew came along and there were no boy clothes for him. My grandsons came along and some were in and now I have great grandsons (I’m really not that old – married into an established family – lol). I am so happy there is now someone who put this together. Thanks.

  615. Kate says:

Brilliant! My best friend has a little boy and I have struggled to sew as much for him as I do for 2 other friends who have little girls. He’ll be thrilled to see the book :)

Also – great job on the welt pockets. The jacket looks great.

  616. Cynthia Jackson says:

I love to sew for my grandkids just like I did for my son, This will be a nice addition to the summer patterns I used for my son.

  617. J Sims says:

How fun, my first great-grandson is a boy, going to be 4!!! this year and starting pre-school. I sewed for all my children, and his mama, my first grandchild, now I can sew for him, since he’s a big boy now! not a baby. Gavin’s oma, Jeannine

  624. Sarah says:

Love this book! As a mom of four boys I’m so excited to see collections of patterns like this. In the 20 years since having my first boy it’s been a long haul of very few patterns to choose from. Now though, sewing for my 2 year old and 11 month old is a lot more fun than it was way back when for my now 20 and 16 year olds when they were small. How cute would the boys be in matching fall coats?!?

This looks fabulous! It’s always so easy to find little frilly patterns for my daughter, but nothing for my son. And he’s only 2 1/2, so there would be many years of putting this book to use. Yay!

  629. Laurie says:

After the arrivals of my first two nephews in the spring, I’ve been on the lookout for cool presents to make for my boys. Slim pickin’s out there for clothing patterns. This book is just what I need.

  632. Ellen says:

Well, I sew for my 10 month old girl, but I like to dress her in practical clothing! While dresses and skirts CAN be practical, they are often not. Also, I want clothes that are good for handing down in case I have a boy next!

    Happy Sewing,
    Heather

  634. Pam says:

I have three Patterns by Figgy’s. ‘Dapper Dillinger Trousers’ is an easy pair of pants with a flat front. The pants I made looked great.’Mary Go Round’ I finished today; a quick and easy pattern. I’m looking forward to making the ‘Beach Bum Hoodie & Board Shorts’. I would LOVE to have ‘Sewing For Boys’!!! I know the patterns in the book would be just as easy to follow, producing great looking clothes.

  641. Kelly Jo says:

I’d definitely sew for my son. I’ve been sewing dresses and cute little skirts for my daughter for some time now, but finding boys stuff is hard! 646. Deb Cameron says:

Ooohhh, squeee, I have been patiently waiting for this book to be available. I do hope to win, but if not it will be a must have in my house full of little boys under 4. Thanks for such a lovely sewing book made just for us Mums and our boys!

  647. patricia says:

This is wonderful, my grandson “E” is always disturbed that I haven’t sewn anything for him. Sewing world has come into the new world, YES, boys should be able to have more than just those blues and browns, those jeans, jerseys and sweatshirts that you find in the department stores. As of late there have been new fabric lines devoted to boys themes… I am so impressed, thank-you, Shelly Figueroa and Karen LePage. “E”‘s birthday is in October..I think it would be a wonderful present if I wrapped a copy of this book in some of the new fabric we purchased together at a LQS in his town..He can pick an outfit from his own pattern book! We can spend the weekend sewing, he loves to help MeMa sew (Nothing to do with MeMa or sewing, it is a machine that facinates him) !!!WOW!!!!

    Thanks for the chance!

  662. Asta says:

This is such an important book, I find sewing for boy very challenging, there’s a lot of fabrics and prints and patterns and jsut stuff for girls and feel neglecting the male side.

  663. shannon says:

*sigh* i wish i was sewing and this book was available when my boys were young. they are 11 and 15. i would love a book for boys this age! :) i guess i will have to sew for my friend’s baby boy. :)

  670. Mar says:

Finally here! As soon as I read your post in FB I clicked on it! My 4 year old boy will be delighted that I stop making dresses and skirts for a while. He is always asking? “Y para mi que mami?” And for me, what mummy? So thanks for sharing and I really hope I win this time!!!

  671. HelenH says:

Finally! A book about sewing for boys! I have a 3yr old son and a 5yr old son, a new nephew and two more nephews on the way. Most of all though, I love sewing for my boys and they love having mummy-made things. I actually haven’t seen any patterns by figgy before, but would love to give them a go.

  672. Valerie miller says:

I have a little boy due in a few weeks and as of now he will be wearing his sisters pink hand me downs!

  680. debra says:

Oh i was so tired of boring clothes for my little one i ‘tried’ to sew something with a little imagination. This was a few years ago now and things have changed a little. However, now that i have two little grand boys i would love to make more imaginative classy robes for them to clothe their little bodies…what a great book..thank you for the opportunity!

  681. Drea says:

Yay! The second I found out I was having a boy (3 years ago now) I was SO excited to set up his nursery and get shopping! …then I saw what was available and was more than disappointed! I’m so happy to see more and more great things for boys out there while he’s still young! I cannot wait to see more of this book — thank you so much for the giveaway!

  682. KD-Quilts says:

I love this book. When I found put I was having a boy I was a little sad because I thought of all the stuff I could sew for a girl and not a lot for a girl. Turns out there’s lots to make for a boy and this book will make it even easier! Thanks!

  683. Jess says:

I have struggled to find funky patterns for my boys (4 and 7) and have resorted to using one or two daggy patterns, but this book looks awesome! So glad someone has realised its not just pretty little dresses that people want to make!

  684. KD-Quiltd says:

I love this book. When I found put I was having a boy I was a little sad because I thought of all the stuff I could sew for a girl and not a p

  685. Cat says:

wow, it looks great ! what is the age range for the patterns ? (I have 3 boys between 4 and 9!!)

  686. Jen says:

Not only will I be sewing for my son (age 2) but I will be sewing for my daughter (age 7) who is a complete tom boy. I have had about 5 years of wanting to make things for her but she would turn her nose up at almost anything I suggested. To top it all off, ALL of my siblings and cousins children are boys and I love to give them handmade gifts for their birthdays and this book is out just in time to start on all their christmas presents.

  687. wow! sewing for boys is always tricky and at times boring! i would love to sew for my best friend’s son as she always enquirers as to why i deck my darling princess and he stands out as so sombre!

  688. Bernice says:

I would sew for my son. He’s the one who encouraged me to start sewing! He said, “mommy, you could learn how to sew” when I asked him what I was going to do with all my time when he went to school.

  689. AJ says:

My just-turned-2-year-old loves to wear what Mummy makes! Hope I can win a copy to make some more thiings for him!

  690. Ambrosia says:

I have three boys and one more boy due in November. I have a very hard time finding good, classic looking patterns for them! As much as they love anything I create for them, I know we’d all love to have this book to help!

  691. Katrin says:

I’d definitely sew for my nephew (5y) and my son (7m) when he’s a bit older.
There aren’t many nice sources for sewing (or knitting) boy’s stuff, everything I see is pink and has ruffles…
Good to see someone took care of that!

  692. Palila says:

My cousin and neighbor both have little boys, and I’m all out of ideas of things to make for them! The little girls in my life have lots of options, but the boys… I’m stumped.
Plus, we don’t know if the kiddo joining us in a couple of months is a boy or girl, and it deserves the same sewing goodness either way!

  693. Hueisei says:

Wow. Nice projects to work with.. thanks for a chance to win! I loves to win it for my boy..

  694. Elisha niven says:

That coat is AMAZING! All of the patterns would be fantastic for my little Hurley Burley Boy. Only 3 hours to make a coat, that is wonderful.

  695. wow, this book fills a glaring gap in the market, a fan of figgy’s, i had been hoping they were cooking up a book. And what a book it is too. There just hasnt been alot of choice out there for boys. I’ve mainly patched together my own patterns for my son, i make alot of his clothes and this book would get me tackling the trickier garments..like that gorgeous coat(3 hours. really!?). Must review this one for my blog. Lots of l’il boys with crafty mama’s out there! Thanks for spreading the word.

  696. Can’t wait till I can get my hands on this book ! My little man is 7 years already and he’s loved the clothes I’ve made for him but I’m always looking for new patterns so I’m so looking forward to this book.

  697. omgosh, this is exactly what I need. I had be beautiful baby boy at the beginning of August, boys clothes are so bland in the shops :-(( (here’s my boy http://geekysweetheart.blogspot.com/2011/08/update-squiggle-is-here.html)

  699. Annipanni says:

All my friends are having baby boys, cannot wait to sew for them!

  700. Christina says:

Looks like a lovely book indeed. I love classic clothes for boys, but they tend to cost a fortune. I hate clothes that are covered in logo’s and brands. This book is the perfect solution. :)

  701. gaby says:

Yay! Finally a book for boys. My son is 4 and I always find it hard to find things to sew for him. Most books have lots of girly patterns but not much for boys.

  702. Kathrin says:

Oh, I love the pictures from the book above…!
my son is almost 4 years old and there are only patterns for under 3 years available… I would love to win the book!

  703. Sarrah says:

I love this book! I’m always conscious of the fact I sew way more for my daughter than my son. I’m afraid he’ll feel slighted even though I would really LOVE to sew for him, it’s simply just hard to find great boy patterns. I can’t wait to make him his own adorable coat!

  704. daniela says:

sewing for kids, i love all the tips and patterns i can get

  705. I would just LOVE to have this book to sew some things for my 5 year old (& his 1 year old sister). I really am in love with the raglan tee pattern. I have used that one at least 5 times!

  706. laura reich says:

Oh my word, I have 3 little boys and even they have noticed all things cute are for girls. They beg me to make them stuff too, but it’s so hard to find anything worth the time and effort.
    This is awesome!

  707. Stephanie F says:

Wow, this book looks awesome. I have 2 sons (baby & toddler) and would love to make the items in the book for them. It is really difficult to find cute boy patterns. Thanks for a chance to win!

  708. Madla says:

Great news, sewing for boys definately lacks interesting inspiration (at least here in the Czech Rep.-a lot of books worth buying must be imported). I have an almost two year old, so far sewed a couple of really basic summer pants for him and I love to have fun with appliques that can make something really special out of an ordinary garment. Happy sewing everyone!

  709. Malia Blossom says:

Our little guy is arriving soon…(35 weeks pregnanat and counting!) I have just taken up sewing again about 2 months ago in preparation for our little man. I would love to have this book! My aspiration is to be able to hand make our son’s entire wardrobe.

  710. Ana says:

I will sew for my boys (2 and 5 years old) and of course I am really excited about the release of this book. A must have!

  715. Janice says:

Yay little boy clothes! I have a 20 month old boy, and am due December 9 with my second boy, I would definately be able to put this book to use for years to come :) its so nice that designers and authors are filling that niche of cute, modern, fun things for boys! It’s nice to have some hip, trendy, super cute options that don’t require shelling out buco bucks at a boutique store. I hope I win!

  716. Melissa says:

Oh I am a huge fan of Patterns by Figgy’s and I have definitely been waiting for a book like this to come out! My 4yo son has been getting a tad jealous of all the little dresses I’ve been making for my daughter so this book would be very much appreciated in our house.

  717. Stacey says:

I would love love love to win this. I have two boys 4 & 2 that love watching me sew and love having things made for them. Rie, I know what you mean about limited boys clothes!

  718. Margaret says:

My street is full of little boys, ages 1-3 years. I’m always looking for special things to make for them. This book is overdue for thoughtful, creative ideas!

  719. luann says:

Wow, I love this! What a great idea.

I have so many patterns for baby girls stuff but my son has lost out because the boys patterns always seemed so… plain. And re-using fabric from dad and grandpa’s clothes to make the jacket makes it a tear jerking treasure!

Besides my boy I have a great-nephew, and another nephew on the way. What fun!

Thanks for the chance, I hope I win!

  720. Tamera says:

Finally, a sewing book focusing on boys, so exciting! I was just telling my DH about how all the books out there feature girly stuff. Now I can outfit my 1 yr old boyfor years to come!

  721. Stinne Caspersen says:

I NEED to win this book! We live in Denmark with our two boys (and a Girl). Great patterns for boys are difficult to find. This book will never find its way to the Danish libery, so PLEACE let me win it :o)

  722. Rie says:

What a great idea & long overdue. I’d sew & sew & sew for my 9mth old boy. You know I hate going into baby shops cos there are racks & racks of girls clothes… and only 1 rack for boys – why is that!!!!

  723. Neeza Zaini says:

OMG, I want one. I sewed traditional Malay attires for my boys (hubby and son) and that is it. Hope fully this book can give me more idea to sew for my boys :))). Like 1000x!!!

  724. Jenniffer says:

How exciting to finally see a book dedicated to sewing for boys. I have a new son and a nephew and it’s so hard to find sewing patterns for boys. So glad to see this.

  725. Marshall says:

The pockets really do make the jacket. :) It looks adorable. I would sew for my nephew and friends until I have my own little boy to spoil. ;)

  726. Serena says:

Love that jacket. I was SO happy when I saw this had come out! It’s definitely filling a gap in the sewing book market. I’d sew for my nephew. :)

  729. Rita says:

OMStars!!! FINALLY a comphrehensive book for the lil’ dudes in our lives!!! I am a mother to 3 boys (5, 18, 23…go ahead, chuckle) and YOUNG granny(44) to girl(4), boy(4mo), girl(almost 2weeks) and auntie to girl(12) & boy(8). I sew for all of them & would get LOTS of mileage out of this book!!! My fav is that jacket!!! It’d be SEW easy to whip it into a girlie one too. I’ve tried to be creative over the years for my boys but this one book has it all…no kidding when you say everything! WOW!!! If I won, the first thing would be the jacket for my 5yr old & then onto matching Christmas jammies for everyone…how FUN would that be!?! Even if I don’t win, I’ll be on the hunt for this one. Thanks for the opportunity & good luck to everyone entering!

  730. Annmarie says:

That jacket is lovely! I have been so excited for this book, I have three boys and have found most sewing books to be woefully lacking for boys patterns. Thanks for the great review, I will definitely be picking this book up.

  731. ClaireM says:

The patterns look awesome! The Big 4 pattern companies completely ignore boys and it drives me crazy. My little boy, 11months, would look super cute in that jacket that you made. I would love this book – thank you for the chance to win it.

I would sew for my little boy, who was just born on Friday!

  733. Maddie says:

I’d love to win a copy of Sewing for Boys. My two boys are 4.5 and 2, and I love to make things for them. Everything in the shops is so samey samey, and I really struggle to find cute patterns for them, but these look fantastic! I’m a stay at home mum, so the budget isn’t always there for new clothes, but my stash of fabric is always at the ready!
