Doll Quilt Contest ~ Pretty in Patchwork: Doll Quilts!

on October 26 | in Contests & Giveaways, Products | by | with 22 Comments

We’re thrilled to announce a fun contest to celebrate the release of Pretty in Patchwork: Doll Quilts by Cathy Gaubert. Pretty in Patchwork is a new series from Lark Crafts, and doll quilts are a great way to start the fun! Cathy Gaubert, with twenty talented designers, presents a wide variety of patterns in the book. The doll quilts incorporate applique, piecing, embroidery and much more, and the book also includes beautiful photos of vintage doll quilts and some great extras too (like matching doll clothes!).

So, without further ado, here’s Cathy of Handmade… CathyGaubert (below) to tell us all about the contest. The prizes are absolutely fantastic. We can’t wait to see what you create!

What could be more fun than going through your fabric stash and stitching up a super sweet doll quilt? Well, how about the chance to win $100 worth of fabrics from the lovely ladies of Sew,Mama,Sew!, a dolly or a bunny friend to go with that dear little doll quilt (handmade by yours truly), and a signed copy of Pretty in Patchwork: Doll Quilts?!

Dresden plates, plus signs, and patchwork goodness… Oh, my! Appliqué embellishments, improv piecing, and embroidered loveliness? Yes, please! English paper piecing (and really, who doesn’t love hexagons?)– Let’s just fussy cut till our little hearts are content! Piece together a brand-new quilt or enter one that you have already made; we’ll have a fabulous Flickr group devoted to your entries (please limit those to 2 per person). We are so (sew!) excited to see the doll quilts that you “piece, stitch, and love!”

Prizes
Here are the goodies:

Of course you know that there will also be a little extra special bundle of patchwork happiness (from me) packaged up for each winner!

How to Enter
Want to play? Upload an image of your doll quilt to the Lark Doll Quilt Contest Flickr Pool between October 27 and Monday, November 14th. Two entries are allowed per person. The winners will be announced on Facebook on Friday, November 18.

Judging Criteria
The quilts will be judged on a variety of elements:

  • hand embroidered goodness
  • unique twists on traditional patchwork
  • paper piecing prowess

So let’s see those quilts! Share up to two photos in the Lark Doll Quilt Contest Flickr Pool between October 27 and Monday, November 14th. Check out Pretty in Patchwork: Doll Quilts by Cathy Gaubert for lots of inspiration and some truly beautiful patterns!

Such wonderful ideas and beautiful quilts…this would be a great addition to my quilting library as well as a wonderful tutorial for my granddaughter.. who is 5 years old and has been sewing (with assistance of course) on her very own Janome sewing machine.. she has actually made a doll quilt …

hello, all! about the size restrictions/requirements/limitations/etc…well, we really aren’t sticklers about that! this will give you an idea about sizes: the smallest quilt in the book (margie oomen’s ‘patches and lace’) is a sweet 12 x 10 inches and the largest (malka dubrawsky’s ‘cupcake quilt’) is a luscious 27 x 24ish inches. here, there, or somewhere near sounds pretty good to me!

  11. amy dame says:

ooh, this is perfect timing! i had an idea for a doll quilt the other day, it’ll be the perfect gift for a friend.

i’ll echo cinzia allocca though – what are the size restrictions? are there any other rules, like when it was made or who is allowed to enter? i’ve noticed in the past that Lark tends to limit giveaways to US only, is this contest open to international quilters?

    thanks!
