Melanie from A Sewing Journal stops by each month with an overview of beautiful sewing trends in the online sewing world. Visit A Sewing Journal for more, and find Melanie on Twitter and Facebook.

Tell us what you’re seeing out there. What are you sewing? What do you just love this summer, fabric/pattern/design-wise? Feel free to include a link in the comments to your latest sewing successes!

Join me as I take at look at what we’ve been sewing!

Felt dolls for girls or boys. Clockwise from top left: Character dolls (tutorial) by the Teawagon Boys for teawagontales, felt dolls made with love by charlanne, doll garland by Parrish Platz using doll tutorial by charlanne, Little Apples doll pattern by comfortstitching, daffodil and julip by Gingermelon.

Color Riot– Bright colors are everywhere! Clockwise from top left: Strings of color quilt by s.o.t.a.k handmade, Crazy Love blanket by Sew Fun by Monique, Mega Grandmother’s Garden Quilt Tutorial by During Quiet Time, Chevron Twirly Skirt by terrabytefarm using the Linen Ruffle Skirt Tutorial by Caila-Made, Vintage Sheet Patchwork Prism Quilt by In Color Order using the free Patchwork Prism quilt pattern by Anna Maria Horner.

It’s all in the details: Lots of details in children’s clothing. Clockwise from top left: Playdate dress (Oliver + S pattern) by probably actually for skirt as top, Een kleedje by spiegelstiksels, Badminton top (Oliver + S pattern) by Parrish Platz, Bulle Marine by Joke of Paspel Poezen, Hexagoned Ofelia (Figgy’s pattern) by nested in stitches.

Paper pieced people. Paper piecing is popular (here is the Sew,Mama,Sew! series on paper piecing) and some of you are piecing people! By the way, Christine Thresh has a paper piecing pattern called Meet Kate and Friends which offers a large variety of “people patterns.” Clockwise from top left: Camera Man by sewtakeahike, Vintage Skier (pattern by During Quiet Time) by Trillium Design, paper pieced daughter by three_little_pumpkins, Posh 20s Lady by Le borse di Gaya, Little girl with balloon (pattern in Fat Quarterly) by Little D and Me.

What’s popular on Pinterest is not always necessarily the newest tutorials and patterns. I searched under the terms “sew” and “sewing” to see what would come up with the most repins. Here are a few of what I found. All of these have more than 600 repins, some more than 4000! Clockwise from top left: Shirred Pillowcase Top (tutorial) by Betz White for Craftzine, Beginner’s Bias Tape Bag (free pattern) by Prudent Baby, Reversible Swim Cover-Up (tutorial) by Jenny Garland for Moda Bake Shop, Lickety Split Mini-Bags by Made By Rae, Ruffled Chemise by Aesthetic Nest, Snappy Toddler Dress (free pattern) by Prudent Baby.

Beachy blue fabrics are ushering us into summer! Clockwise from top left: Sling Chairs Blue from the It’s a Shore Thing fabric collection designed by Jack & Lulu for Dear Stella Fabrics, Cabana Stripe Navy from the It’s a Shore Thing fabric collection designed by Jack & Lulu for Dear Stella Fabrics, Kite Ties Ocean from the Lucy’s Crab Shack fabric collection by Sweetwater for Moda, Summer Plaid Shade from the Veranda fabric collection designed by Verna Mosquera for Free Spirit Fabrics, Polka Dot Navy from the It’s a Shore Thing fabric collection designed by Jack & Lulu for Dear Stella Fabrics, Vintage Stripe Cedar from the Veranda fabric collection designed by Verna Mosquera for Free Spirit Fabrics, Aloha Deep Sea from the Lucy’s Crab Shack fabric collection by Sweetwater for Moda.
