The talented Alyssa Lichner from Pile o’ Fabric is our new Modern BOM designer. Alyssa does it all and does it so well, from graphic/web design to running Aria Lane, her quilt and embroidery pattern design company. We’re so excited about Alyssa’s new BOM blocks and we hope you’ll sew along with us in the six months of the series. While you wait for the first fun design, be sure to visit Pile o’ Fabric. You’ll find lots of tutorials and special series focused on learning quilting skills.
My name is Alyssa Lichner, I am a stay at home mother of two kiddos, and a freelance Graphic/Web Designer with my most recent design project being the Modern Quilt Guild website.
I become a Modern Quilter just as many of you have, by stumbling upon the world wide web of crafty blogs. When I was growing up I did some basic clothing sewing, but never quilted or even really understood what it was. When I was pregnant with my second child I was shopping at the Pottery Barn Kids, and fell completely in love with their quilts. Ignorantly I looked at the price tag and just about had a heart attack.
I went home and started surfing the web for tutorials and the first blogs I stumbled upon were Diary of a Quilter, Sew,Mama,Sew! and Stitched in Color. Before long I had spent way more than the price of a Pottery Barn quilt on fabric alone, and I was busting quilts out left and right. After a few months of non-stop quilting talk I could tell my husband and sisters had heard enough, so I decided to start Pile o’ Fabric to blog about my quilting adventures.
Today, Pile O’ Fabric has grown to be a Modern Quilting blog where I am able to encourage others to give quilting a try, teach quilting techniques through many tutorials a month, and host many events such as Quilt Alongs, Fabric Swaps and Block of the Months, and give away modern fabric every Friday! Just recently I launched my own Quilt and Embroidery pattern design company called Aria Lane.
We are small right now, but hope to bring on multiple designers in the future with the goal of being a boutique where you will find unique, quality, modern sewing patterns. My ultimate goal with quilting is to connect with fellow quilters and inspire them to continue learning, to step out of their comfort zone, try new techniques, join new events, try new products and fall even more in love with quilting than they were.
I do hope you will join me here at Sew,Mama,Sew! for the next six months as we test our skills with a Jumbo Modern Block of the Month! Can’t wait to see your blocks!
