Modern BOM 2 // Stained Glass // April Block #2

Welcome to April! This month we will be making a Stained Glass Quilt Block for Modern BOM 2.

Before we begin, here are the tools you will need:

Tool List:

  • 6.5” X 24” Ruler
  • Rotary Cutter and Rotary Mat
  • Heavy Starch and Iron (I use Best Press Starch)
  • Sewing Pins
  • Matching Thread (I use Aurifil 50wt)

– (1) 2.5″ x 2.5″ – A1
– (1) 2.5″ x 11.5″ – A2

– (4) 3.5″ x 5.5″ – B1

Block Instructions:

Step 1: First begin by pressing the fabric you plan to use for this block with starch and a hot dry iron (refer to pressing tutorial for accurate pressing instructions). Then use the Block Cutting Guide (above) to cut out the pieces for the block. Label each piece with the label # (D2, A1, B2, etc.) as you cut your pieces.

Step 2: Lay the pieces out right side up in the order of the cutting block diagram using the label #’s as a guide.

Step 3: Using the numbering on the piecing diagram, piece together all the pieces in the numbered order. Piece 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and so on. As you go press all seams OPEN. Be sure that you use an accurate scant 1/4″ seam allowance. There are a lot of seams in this block, so accurate seam allowances are a must!
