Beth from Plum and June wrote to share her recent Easy, Scrappy Patchwork Baby Quilt tutorial. Her version of the quilt uses a variety of stash fabrics and her ten year old thinks it should be called “Patchwork Prettiness!”
Like many other quilters, some days I pull out my fabric stash and just start putting together different fabric combinations for inspiration. That is exactly how this scrappy patchwork baby quilt came to be. I had put together a stack of fabrics that were what I would refer to as either low-volume(ish) or “quiet(er)” and thought that they would work well together in a simple patchwork quilt. While I was putting the patchwork blocks together, I started thinking that I’d like to add a light solid fabric to the mix to contrast the patchwork. The four sweet little novelty prints were basically an afterthought that I added to the quilt right before sewing the blocks together; I thought they worked well with the color palette and what I now saw as an outdoor theme for the quilt. I think what really brought the whole quilt together though was the binding; it is Fois Bois by Birch Fabrics and I think it really both contrasts and blends nicely with both the colors and the overall theme of this little quilt.
