Sewing Inspiration: Summer Dresses

Jamie from Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom has an amazing collection of free tutorials on her site. Here’s a link to just the Clothing + Accessories category! She wrote to share a couple of recent favorites, the Boho Maxi and the Modern Peasant.

Boho Maxi Dress:
This pattern is Jamie’s original design which is available as a free download on her blog in sizes 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. She used a tie-dyed paisley print fabric from her local fabric store.

I was inspired to make this dress for my little girl. She had been requesting a long dress and when I saw this particular fabric at the fabric store, I knew it would be perfect as a summer maxi dress. There is a complete tutorial with quite a few pictures to help you sew a version of this dress. The tutorial includes instructions if someone would like to make a smaller or larger size.

Modern Peasant Dress:
This pattern is also from one of Jamie’s free tutorials. This is a “pattern re-mix” of the free peasant dress pattern available on her blog, available in sizes 12/18 months, 2t/3t and 4 to 7. She used a Riley Blake Chevron print and two other prints from her local fabric shop.

This particular dress design is part of my “pattern re-mix” series where I have used my Peasant Dress pattern and “re-mixed” it for different looks. So far, I have made a peasant dress with cascading ruffles, a tie front cardigan and the Modern Peasant version. (I have more looks planned.)

The fabric choices I made for this dress scream Spring/Easter. My daughter wore this dress for Easter and for our yearly bluebonnet pictures. (I made my son a coordinating bow tie using a easy little bow tie tutorial found on my blog as well.)

Love what you see? Check out Jamie’s latest Summer Sundress (no pattern needed, make any size with Jamie’s instructions) and her sundress made with pre-ruffled fabric (tutorial on Jamie’s blog).

Yay! Wonderful. Her patterns are terrific. I’ve made her child’s apron with her easy-to-follow tutorial and I highly recommend it! Next project: pillowcase dress (with options).
