Round One of the Super Online Sewing Match starts Monday! The ten contestants will receive an email with the instructions for accessing the pattern for the first round. We’ll also post the details of the challenge on the blog so you can sew along and enter our Community Match. All of the pattern designers have offered a generous discount for their patterns, which we’ll post with each round. In addition to supplying all the patterns for the contestants, the designers have contributed copies of their patterns as prizes for the Community Match.
When Beth and I were planning the challenges for each round, we had a few criteria in mind:
- Patterns that were well-tested by exceptional designers.
- Patterns that required many different skills and techniques. We looked at everything from closures, to interlinings, to seam finishes.
- Designs that could be uniquely interpreted so the contestants can show off their creativity.
We were absolutely thrilled that all the designers we approached enthusiastically agreed to be part of the contest. Each of them will be posting about some aspect of their pattern during their round, with tips about a technique, options for modifications, or descriptions of suggested fabrics.
So, without further ado, the five pattern designers are:
Liesl Gibson of Oliver + S
Lisa Lam of U-handbag
Deborah Moebes of Whipstitch
Sarai Mitnick of Colette Patterns
Tasia Pona of Sewaholic
We hope you’re as excited about this as we are! Remember, all the designers will have discount codes available for their patterns during each round so you can sew along with the contestants and enter the Community Match.
Today is the last day to send in your audition emails! Check out this post for all the details.
