Our Go + Sew series highlights upcoming modern sewing retreats and conferences. Wouldn’t you love to get away with new friends? Can you imagine a full weekend where the entire focus is sewing?! Today Amy “Sukie” Newbold of Don’t You Know Who I Am? tells us about the inaugural Sewtopia event in Salt Lake City, Utah. Registration opens next week!
The Event: Sewtopia
Sewtopia is a weekend where attendees can leave all the stresses of daily life behind to indulge themselves, focus on sewing projects, and get together with friends, old and new.
Amy writes, “Being in an online sewing community has totally changed my life! I have more friends now than ever. There are people out there that honestly care about me, and we just communicate via email, blogs, and social media outlets. That means a lot to me, and I’m no longer a hermit quilter.”
Sewtopia was inspired by the modern, online sewing community. With today’s technology, we are more connected to each other than ever before. Blogs, online swaps, and social media have given us the opportunity to make friends around the country and even the world. Through Sewtopia, these online relationships can have a real world meeting place.
Where + When?
Registration for Sewtopia opens February 11, 2014 at 10:00am MST.
0n November 6 – 9, 2014, the Hilton City Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah will host 100 sewists.
We choose Salt Lake City, because it’s a gorgeous setting between the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake. It has a very large crafting community from quilting to knitting.
The hotel is centrally located in downtown with over a dozen restaurants and bars in walking distance. The nights won’t be boring at all! If our attendees get bored with sewing or just want to step away, there’s City Creek. It houses over 100 retailers and restaurants with a retractable glass roof, a creek that runs through the property, a pedestrian sky bridge and more.
You can book your hotel through the Hilton Salt Lake Center. We have two room options for attendees.
How much does it cost, and what’s included?
The cost of registrations is $275.00 for the weekend. There is early bird registration for $250.00

This is the first year for Sewtopia and we’re excited! We have space for 100 attendees and we’ll consider opening up for more in 2015.
We wanted to capture the best parts of sewing events… The fun times with friends you’ve made online or in person. The food. The drinks. Laughter.
There’s no stress about classes or prep work, just sewing and socializing the whole weekend and plenty of relaxation.
We have a great website! Please visit for more information.
