We started our Go + Sew series to feature upcoming modern sewing retreats and conferences. We want you to know all of the details so you can plan to actually attend the event! Susannah and Jemellia share information about Sew OK in today’s post, a new retreat this Summer 2014 in Oklahoma.
Sew OK is a three day sewing retreat created to join sewists, quilters and stitchers together while encouraging friendships and building a community where we love, laugh, admire and create.
We thought that having an event in Oklahoma would attract sewists from Texas, Kansas, Nebraska and other surrounding states; we are pretty much in the middle of the country, so why not have a retreat you can drive to? Of course, we have a lot of quilters/sewists that live in Oklahoma and we hope to see their faces as well!
Where + When?
Sew OK will be held in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the historic Skirvin Hotel. Event dates are Thursday, July 17th through Saturday, July 19th, 2014.
How much does it cost, and what’s included?
Tickets to Sew OK are $250. This includes three full days of sewing, two classes taught by Carolyn Friedlander and Dana Bolyard, and book signing for Dana’s new book! There will be fun swaps and giveaways throughout the event. We know there will be lots of laughing and good times!
Meals and lodging are the responsibility of each attendee. We know you will enjoy visiting and getting to know one another around a table! The hotel offers an in-house restaurant and there are many options within walking distance for dining and food. We encourage you to stay with us at the Skirvin Hotel for convenience but, of course, it is not a requirement. Attendees will receive a special code for room reservation with a discount. Our website has details! Some locals may wish to drive in for the day and that’s okay too.
How many years has the event been presented, and how many people typically attend?
This is our first year to host Sew OK and we are offering 56 tickets. This number will keep the event cozy and personal. We want to be able to get to know everyone who comes!
Instructors for the Event:
First, we are excited to announce Dana Bolyard!
Dana will be teaching quarter circles/curved piecing. Here is a preview of a quilt she made using this technique and it’s on the cover of her upcoming book! Imagine Quilts will be available in July 2014!
Sew OK’s second instructor is Carolyn Friedlander!
Carolyn will be teaching the Social Tote, one of her patterns that she released this year.
What does a typical day (class?) look like?
There is plenty of relaxing “you” time to work on your own projects, chit chat with your new friends and enjoy uninterrupted sewing. On Friday and Saturday afternoon we will enjoy demonstrations/teaching from our instructors. Scattered throughout the three days there will be giveaways and swaps. Each night enjoy dinner with your sewing buddies and then come back to join us… We will be stitching until midnight!
Are there other things to do in the area?
There are a lot of wonderful local businesses downtown. We will be adding more information to the website soon and to a packet for attendees but, for now, here are two fun links to enjoy:
