Spring Sew-Alongs + Prizes ~ DYO Sampler + Mini Medallion Quilt

on March 31 | in Contests & Giveaways, Sew-Alongs, Sewing Tutorials + Patterns, Spring Quilt Sew-Alongs | by | with 54 Comments

Are you ready to sew along with us? We’re kicking off two Spring Sew-Alongs here this month! Sew in April and May for your chance to win great prizes and to create a beautiful new quilt (or two!).

Sarah Schraw from Sarah Quilts will show you how to design your own “DYO Sampler” Quilt tomorrow. If you love samplers, why not design your own? Make any blocks you love, and join them to make a beautiful and unique sampler. Debbie Jeske from A Quilter’s Table will share a big list of favorite quilt block tutorials for you to pick and choose from. You can start today, selecting fabric to include and share via #dyosampler.

Mid-month, Corey Yoder from Little Miss Shabby will join us with a Mini Medallion Quilt pattern and tutorial! This fabulous little quilt allows you to participate in the medallion craze in a fun but manageable way. It’s a great skill-builder with a beautiful end result!

You can choose to sew along with either the DYO Sampler Quilt or the Mini Medallion Quilt, or both. Share progress pics and updates now through May 31 via your blog with a link in the comments below, or share on social media with #dyosampler and #minimedallion. Any photo or post showing progress on either quilt qualifies you as a participant. We’ll randomly select winners to win fabulous prizes on June 1 from our sponsors, Threadbias, Aurifil and C&T Publishing/Stash Books!

The Prizes

Three winners will receive a set of 10 Aurifil threads: Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander, Fresh Modern & Timeless by Victoria Findlay Wolfe or Tula Pink. Quality Aurifil threads are perfectly suited for every quilt project. What happens when a great Italian thread maker joins forces with top quilters? You get thread with a passion!

Three winners will receive a set of three books from C&T Publishing/Stash Books: Playful Petals: Learn Simple, Fusible Appliqué 18 Quilted Projects Made From Precuts by Corey Yoder (designer of the Mini Medallion Quilt Pattern), Essential Sewing Reference Tool: All-in-One Visual Guide by Carla Hegeman Crim and Make & Love Quilts: Scrap Quilts for the 21st Century by Mary Katherine Fons.
Three winners will receive a 3-month subscriptions to the Threadbias Quilt Design Tool. The Threadbias Quilt Design Tool is an easy to use program to help you plan your quilt blocks and full-sized projects!

So will you join us? Let’s sew along together this spring!

I don’t have time to make the bigger one but the mini I can do. I can’t wait to get started on it.

  22. Cindy says:

I want to try the DYO Sampler, I have many strips (multi-colored) from an old quilt kit, that will be perfect. I ordered some Amy Butler (Lark) to go with them. I can’t wait to have a go at it. May be right up my alley. I love to create…..thanks so much!

  23. Cindy says:

I want to try the sampler, I have a quilt kit I bought a while ago with over 100
21 inch by 1.5 inch fabric strips that Are going to waste. I think this would be the prefect solution to use up some stash. Ll

  27. Vicki Jenkins says:

I am so happy to have stumbled upon this great inspiration. Looking forward to more. Thank you.

  28. BillieBee says:

    Very tempting……love them both.

  29. Kris says:

I keep looking at these and though I was committing my time to another project this month, I really want to do one or both. I like the idea of using orphan blocks but mine are mainly from my mother and are made in older designs and fabrics more like calico. It might be a challenge or I might have to just use my stash.

  30. Anita says:

I’ve been meaning to design my own quilt with various block sizes for a while now so this should spur me on to do it! :)

  31. Lindsay H says:

Looks super fun and I have some baby quilts I need to get started on so maybe I’ll kill two birds with one stone (or sew two birds with one needle?)

  32. Donna H says:

I just bought a sampler book with blocks so I guess this will make me move forward and figure something out. Love the idea of a mini quilt too. I don’t have a lot of PIP’s so I am going to try and do both.

  33. Aline says:

The medallian is the one for me! Love it, all the little borders make it perfect for my table. Can’t wait to get started

  34. Brenna says:

Oh, I love the sampler! I just signed up for a Craftsy BOM class too, maybe I’ll combine the two so I can learn some new techniques!

  35. Anita from the Midwest says:

The sampler is going to be great for orphan blocks, am going to pull them out tonight!

  36. Cheri says:

I can’t believe you are having this right now! I had joined a swap for a postage stamp quilt and am getting 900, 2.5″ squares to go along with my own 100 squares. I was thinking alll I could do was sew them together or maybe put a same-solid between, but now with these two QAL’s.. I see there are other choices! Count me in on both! This is my first “scrappy” quilt as I don’t really like the looks of most scrappys, but…one can change their minds if the opportunity presents itself!

  37. Darlene says:

I can’t resist the temptation, I’m going to give this a go and make the medallion. Such a hard choice to make, they’re both beautiul.

  38. Marci Girl says:

Oh sounds fun, both of them!

  39. Diana Nelson says:

Love the mini and would enjoy knowing more about it.

  40. elsa says:

Both are great but think I’ll do the medallion ~ have a ‘thing’ for them right now!
Thank you for having this sew along, love seeing what everyone is doing.

  41. Graciela says:

I have just finished a sampler so I will go for the mini this time. Both are beautiful works!

  42. Sandal says:

Sounds like fun! Count me in!

  43. Leanne says:

Sounds great I’m in! Now I just have to choose which one ?????
