This giveaway is now closed. Thanks!

We have a new UPPERCASE magazine giveaway today! I went on about my sincere love for the creative, bright, impassioned publication a few months ago. Issue 20 celebrated five years of UPPERCASE with a broadcasting theme, full of creative manifestos, posters, public art and so much more. Sprinkled throughout are fun looks at sewing notions, yarn bombing, vintage haberdashery… UPPERCASE always delights me in unexpected ways; I loved the piece about vintage ham radio radio cards, for example.

As I mentioned last time, my entire family finds things to love in every issue of UPPERCASE. It prompts us to talk color, ideas, pattern and what it means to live a creative life. With each UPPERCASE issue we pick up and pour over, we make connections. We think about what surprises us or what makes us want to learn more and we relate it to the artful, everyday happenings in our family.

As much as I love Issue 20 I’m always even more excited about what’s to come just around the corner when UPPERCASE arrives in my mailbox. Issue 21 focuses on surface design! Lotta Jansdotter! It includes a special Surface Pattern Design Guide featuring 100 surface pattern designers! Goodness gracious…

Explore the world of surface pattern design in our form, function and ornamentation issue. Whether you’re a crafter, a hobby photographer on Instagram, a part-time blogger or a parent with a creative child — you play a daily role in decorating your world. Be inspired to consciously shape your surroundings with our 116 pages of gorgeous images and uplifting content.

UPPERCASE has a special subscription price this week! You can use the code springsale and save $10 off your subscription through Sunday, March 9.

UPPERCASE is also once again generously offering a giveaway copy to one Sew Mama Sew reader (Canadian and US residential addresses only this time, please). To enter, tell us how you decorate your world, whatever that means to you. (My daughter prefers to have just about every surface covered in pink stripes, as you can see in the photo above.)

Oh, Issue 21… I can’t wait!

  5. amber says:

Sadly decorate with clutter from all my various projects scattered throughout the apartment. I also make a lot of stuff like pillows or coasters that are great but don’t really go together and the mish-mash sprinkled in between cat toys and unfinished quilts creates further chaos. I need to learn to how to organize and decorate. Maybe Uppercase could help me develop and streamline my skills?

  6. Beverly says:

I love ‘a little of this and a little of that’. It tends to be French Country. I seem to go that direction because I think it makes a home seem warm and inviting.

  9. Oh that pic – it could just as easily be mine! My daughter has a pink striped dress she has been living in for months, and matching striped tights. So cute. I decorate a little less colorful than I’d like, but we move all.the.time. and I can’t invest in paint and details for every single new layout, so a lot of neutrals in our main livings space with just some pops of color in accents. But my forever house is going to be much more lovely with walls of color and coordinated spaces and my real style instead of my “movers are here again” style… someday : )

We’re about to close on a house, and I just can’t wait to get my hands on a paintbrush! There won’t be any dramatic colors, but just changing trim and ceilings from a dirty cream to a bright white does so much to make me happy.

How I would choose to decorate my house and the constraints reality rarely collide. A friend recently described my house as “attic chic” (yes, we’ve collected everyone else’s hand-me-downs), but a pretty vase of wild flowers picked in the summer, or a bowl of fruit a midst the clutter on my table can make me feel very happy! I’d love a subscription to this beautiful magazine! Thanks for the chance.

  43. kristen ballou says:

i don’t know if i “decorate”, exactly. I try but sometimes I can’t limit myself to the neat stuff I see or touch = find. I surround the house with things that mean something, say something or just feel right. A lot of handmade by me or others, found objects, kids things, fabric, art I have picked up places and it seems that a lot of small (tiny) things find themselves tucked into little spots. Crazy, but isn’t home what you make of it?

  44. Robin E says:

I like to decorate like that old Guy Clark song, “Stuff that Works”. We have antique lamps and sewing machine, my father-in-law’s railroad watch, and lots and lots of books in the living room. I hang my cast iron pots and pans on huge nails in my kitchen, ready for use but part of the decor too.

  45. melle e says:

Normally, i decorate based on packing as much color and energy into a room… to set a theme, an emotion, and stay true to it.
Lately though, i’m grow. up. old. something. but growing. changing.

and lately, i’m decorating by removing as much of that energy as possible. decluttering. getting rid of unnecessary items. soothing visual space. creating a blank slate where individual items steeped in love and adoration can be showcased… where they can be appreciated because *finally* they can be seen without the competing chaos of too much stuff. to much energy. to much something. but too much.

  46. Wendy says:

I decorate my world with handmades from fabric and wood.

  67. KimberJ says:

We decorate our mid century/danish modern home using only original artwork especially trying to support local artists and students. You don’t have to break the bank, just your visual boundaries. One of my favorites is a large painting by a 15 yr old high school girl. She had to paint a self portrait as a classical monster. Somehow this amazing girl caught all the wistful emotions Frankenstein must have felt in his search to be accepted, hence “FrankenClaire”.

  68. melissa says:

I like a farmhouse style. Clean vintage look.

  69. kim t. says:

currently our world is decorated with a constant rotation of kid’s artwork…however the bathroom in front, my favorite room in the house, recently remodeled, has nice blue/green walls with a lovely art print of a tandem (my favorite) with flowers from Sarah Jane. it makes me so happy!

I think it’s filled with an eclectic style but comfy!

  105. Christine says:

We just bought our first home together, and my husband and I are enjoying the process of how to decorate and make it our own… we are finding common styles and merging different styles. Making a home is so much more than just living in a house. I would love to see the ideas in issue 21!

  122. Annette Z says:

I’m with your daughter on the pink but I love polka dots instead of stripes. Unfortunately at 49, it’s hard to be taken seriously when wearing polka dots. Otherwise, color, color, color is the way I love to see my world.
