Summer is starting to show its hot hot face in Texas. We’ve already made a few trips to the lake and pool, so you know what I’ve got on the brain: SWIMSUITS! It seems that this year the blogging world is taking sewing swim wear by storm! (HEY! I even sewed my first swimsuit…) I want to share some inspiration with you in hopes that you may tackle your fear of sewing swimwear this season.

And what’s better to top off your handmade swimwear than a handmade COVERUP?! Here are a few fun, inspirational coverups. You can make most of these in just a short afternoon of sewing!

Summer Staples

Sometimes I find it easier when you can see a pattern’s bones and then find fun fabrics to pair with them. In the summer, my staple wardrobe is shorts, a tee or tank and a hat of some sorts. So here’s some SUMMERTIME inspiration for this staple wardrobe!

Renfrew Tee sewn with pineapple fabric found on Spoonfower, Sailor Shorts sewn with butter yellow denim, and a big floppy hat sewn with Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Elements in Snow and a bow sewn in Honeydew.

I have to say I love these posts! Great inspiration. I plan on making a sailor skirt instead of shorts with the pieapple print top only in the blue colorway as it’s a better color on me. I think I decided on Burdastyle Kasia #6012 for the skirt, but want it more a-line and a little longer. If anyone else has any ideas-I’m all ears. Also not sure on the buttons-gold,white,a yellow to blend in? I’m also super excited to make the hat-I love hats, but have never attempted to make one.
