Update: We just posted a big set of Swimsuit Sewing Tips. Check it out!
We’ve always been of the mind that July is the perfect time to freshen up our wardrobes with handmade garments. Whether we’re sewing for the heat or planning ahead, we find that the laid-back pace of the season is just right for trying new techniques, new fabrics and new patterns. We’ve added to our pattern stash all year, and are ready to tackle both trendy new designs, as well as tried and true favorites.
We enlisted the help of one of our favorite sewists, Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness, to select 31 patterns from 31 different designers to feature daily in July. Sara helped curate the list and asked the designers to give us the details of each of the patterns, as well as a couple of customer examples they love. The independent sewing pattern market has grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years, providing us with hundreds of wonderful choices. We hope this series will give you a manageable look at some of the fantastic patterns available, with a glimpse at the techniques, sizes and options, so you can make an informed decision which patterns are right for you. We’re sure you’ll find several new patterns to try and love! Check back every day for a new pattern and a chance to win a copy.
Name: Bombshell Swimsuit
Brand: Closet Case Files
Description: The Bombshell is modeled on a classic 1950’s silhouette, a style that harkens back to the golden era of flattering, sexy and modest swimsuits. The pattern includes 3 variations in 8 sizes: a gathered bust maillot, a halter neck, and a high waist bottom which you can mix and match with your favorite bikini top. Ruched on all sides and along the back center seam, the Bombshell hugs your curves while providing full (but sexy) coverage. Its booty encasing seat and skirt-like front ensure your butt is covered (literally), avoiding the dreaded 4-cheek butt-bulge of higher cut suits. Fully lined, it will keep you decent in or out of the water.
Format: PDF only
