Basic Black Giveaway

on August 11 | in Books | by | with 194 Comments

We showed you author Sato Watanabe’s classic Stylish Skirts: 23 Simple Designs to Flatter Every Figure last week. Sato also has another popular Japanese sewing book newly released in English! Basic Black: 26 Edgy Essentials for the Modern Wardrobe includes a full wardrobe of Western-sized, basic garment designs with pattern pieces.

From the publisher:

Basic Black is the English edition of a classic Japanese sewing book which provides Western-sized patterns for 26 basic garments, along with detailed, easy-to-follow diagrams and instructions. All of the styles are easily customized to create your own personal style, and there is truly something for everyone and every occasion in this book—from a smart two-texture combo dress to a relaxed, bohemian tunic—and everything in-between. All the styles are thoroughly modern and practical, ranging from softly feminine or straight-line simple to smartly-tailored or loosely-deconstructed.

We especially like the Tunic Blouse with Lace Trimmed Armholes, V-neck Midi Dress and Dress with Stitched Skirt. Comment for a chance to win one of two copies of Basic Black: 26 Edgy Essentials for the Modern Wardrobe (US and Canadian residents only this time, please), and don’t miss the free Wrap Skirt with Frilled Edge pattern from earlier this month. Tell us about the most recent thing you sewed!

This looks like a great book! I just finished sewing a red jumpsuit, and I am currently sewing my first swimsuit. Hoping it doesn’t fall apart when I hit the water :-P

I just finished curtains for the bedroom. I used an old embroidered dresser scarf with an amazing crocheted edge for the valances cutting it in half to make a matching valance for each of the small windows. It came out better than I thought it would. Mary
