Wendy Talené is the designer behind Elsewhen, your source for hat patterns, hats or custom millinery requests. Wendy is up next with a beautiful, free Cloche Pattern! First learn more about her start and about the things that make her patterns and designs so special.
Wendy was born and raised in the tropical jungle of Papua New Guinea, far away from the world of fashion and millinery (hat making). She was taught to sew by her mother on an antique Singer sewing machine with a treadle. Drawn to things from bygone eras, she found that the best stories, songs and films came from times when hats were donned. When she moved to the U.S. her collection began, and her favorite hats always seemed to come from antique stores. Unable to find the hats she really wanted to wear, she tried her hand at making her own. By trial and error, her designs emerged and her Elsewhen shop began to attract customers from all over the world. When customers began to inquire about sewing patterns for her designs, she began to write her patterns.
Wendy doesn’t classify herself as a serious seamstress. She doesn’t have formal training, but she feels that is one of the distinguishing features of her patterns; Wendy set out to write patterns for people who had never followed a pattern before and who may not even know many sewing terms. With meticulous instructions, clear illustrations and easily printable formatting, she offers patterns for hats inspired by the past for any size head!
