Note: This contest has been revised. You no longer need to use Rafflecopter to enter; simply post your photo below.

Are you teaching a friend to sew with the new Sew Mama Sew/Lucky Spool series? I’ve seen some thoughtful and generous posts on social media in which Sew Mama Sew readers are announcing to their friends, “If you want to learn to sew, now is the time; I’ll teach you!” Thank you to all of you who are joining in. If you’d like to learn to sew I hope you’ll reach out to someone to guide you through the process. If you feel like you’re on you’re own though, we’ll have plenty of good information here for you to navigate learning to sew.

Throughout our Teach a Friend to Sew series we’ll have a different topic each week that represents a stepping stone to becoming a better sewist. The task for this week is to stock your sewing tool kit. Get it done, show us a photo, and you have a chance to win a great prize! If you are teaching someone during the series, you can also post a photo of your own or your friend’s tool kit for a chance to win. We have a list of our favorite tools and notions in this post, but yours doesn’t have to look like ours. Whatever works for you is fine.

Once you’ve earned your merit badge, here’s what you can enter to win!:

The Pfaff Passport 3.0 sewing machine! This machine isn’t even available to the public yet; the winner of this drawing will get one of the very first ones! This is a great, mid-level machine valued at $799!  Some of the awesome features include:

• The Original IDT™ (Integrated Duel Feed) System, only from PFAFF®
• Automatic Thread Cutter

This is an amazing all-purpose machine, so whether you are a new or an experienced sewist, you will love the Pfaff Passport 3.0!

* Unfortunately, this machine is only available to winners in the US or Canada. Our other prizes, however, are open to worldwide contestants.

We are also giving away three gift certificates to online fabric shops! The winner chooses the shop.

  • One $75 gift certificate
  • Two $50 gift certificates

Here’s how to enter:

  • The sewing merit badge for the week is Sewing Tool Kit.

  • Each week we’ll post a different sewing merit badge and you’ll have another chance to enter a photo for an additional chance to win. Please though, only one entry per week/merit badge.
  • The drawing is open until November 15.
  • If you post on social media, please use #TeachaFriendtoSew, @sewmamasew and @luckyspool.

I am very excited to be teaching my first ever workshop this weekend. I have 2 beginner quilters and 5 experienced quilters coming. Plans are set finally for a BOM starting next Month. For that I have 4 brand new quilters. What fun to be able to share the love of fabric and design. No pictures yet, but some will be forthcoming!

  2. Melba says:

Currently, I am teaching two people to sew. One is my niece who wanted to learn in order to sew for her daughter. The other is a friend who is learning to quilt. In the past, I have taught several others to sew, including my two daughters. I would love to have that new machine to use sewing quilts for our International Church of the Nazarene’s mission hospitals in several countries, as well as to teach others to sew.

  3. It’s so great this teaching someone to sew post occurred today. My niece wants to learn how to sew and how to make quilts so we are meeting on a regular basis to begin this process. I did start her off with a basic sewing kit even though I didn’t post it here (I don’t know how to post a pic). I saw the book you have posted and think I will get it for my niece so she can read it and practice new skills on her own in between our meetings. I would love to win the sewing machine–mine is so old and doesn’t work all that well anymore. Thank you for the giveaway.

I don’t have pictures but a few years ago I was a girl scout mom who went to every meeting (had to pick up 5 girls along the way) and I bought used sewing machines for each and every girl scout who wanted to learn- I was teaching classes and we made a quilt-not the fancy ones that are true quilted quilts but every girl got to sew 3 or 4 10″ squares – we sold it at the parade and every girl said they wanted to continue- I then moved and lost track of them but I would LOVE TO ENTER this one but my teaching was about 7 years ago (but I did buy 9 sewing machines that worked and gave them to the girls) I thought I had done a good thing I helped them sew some a line skirts and some elasticized skirts too- THEY WERE ALL SO PROUD OF THEMSELVES that I was happy. How can I enter?

  6. Melissa says:

Yay! I entered to win! How fun!

  7. Sandra says:

This is a lovely contest. I love Pfaff. But too time-consuming and complicated. I own a 45 year old Pfaff. A great machine–I have never had a problem with it.

  8. Sara says:

This is me learning and making my very first quilt. Taught by my Grandma and made for my best friends baby. Made with pieces of the bridesmaid dress I wore at her wedding!
