Here’s the latest Go + Sew info. The series is our effort to keep you informed about upcoming modern sewing retreats and conferences. Let us know if you have a retreat or workshop you’d like us to feature!

Sew Pro is a lecture-style conference in Chicago, focused on the business side of sewing. Tickets are on sale now! We asked Brenda Ratliff, co-organizer of the conference, to tell us a little about what to expect from the inaugural event…

The Event: Sew Pro
Sew Pro is a lecture-style conference. It’s a great resource for any sewist who is interested in learning more about the business side of sewing. If you are just thinking about becoming a fabric designer, pattern designer, author, sewing blogger or contributing to magazines, this is a great place to start. And for those who have already started small sewing businesses, this is the perfect place to network with colleagues and meet industry professionals to grow your business.

Where + When:
Sew Pro is going to be in Chicago, Illinios at the beautiful Hyatt Regency O’Hare in the Rosemont district of Chicago! Join us September 15-18, 2016!

How much does it cost, and what’s included?
The ticket price for Sew Pro is $550. We do have a six month payment plan that is still available for a few more weeks to break up the cost. This includes a meet and greet, two plated lunches and access to all our amazing lectures and keynote presentations by Pat Sloan and Tula Pink (two ladies who are amazing sewists and business women!). There will be tables set up where you can network with companies that sell supplies needed in the industry as well (like pattern printing, or sewing machines). We are so lucky to have some of the best in our industry coming to teach at Sew Pro!

How long has Sew Pro been taking place, and how many people typically attend?
This will be our very first event! We estimate that there will be about 100-150 attendees!

What types of classes or events take place during Sew Pro, and who participates?
Check out http://www.sewproconvention.com/classes/ to see all the lectures! The classes are set up convention style, so you can choose which classes you want to go to. If you are interested in fabric design we have classes set up specifically on how to submit a fabric collection to a manufacturer by the president of Windam, an amazing fabric company. You really are getting to learn from the best in the business. The classes are going to be set up as a lecture, so bring your notepads!

Pat Sloan + Tula Pink, Keynote Speakers

What are you most excited about with Sew Pro this year?
It’s always exciting to have a new event. There’s nothing out there in our industry quite like Sew Pro so I’m excited to see everything come together. We started a Facebook group to talk about the event and get attendees (and those who are thinking about coming) starting to network. Everyone already has high energy about the event and I know that will lead to success. I’m really pleased that we were able to get Tula Pink and Pat Sloan to be our keynote speakers. These ladies are incredible. They have such talent and really love sewing. Both of them are people to look up to. I can’t wait to meet everyone!

Find more on the Sew Pro website, including a comprehensive FAQ page and lots of info on the classes.

What information filled event. I’ll plan on attending next year. I Ned to save for the airfare & room costs. I know I can afford the classes. What a great group of speakers. I’m always wanting to learn more about business. I’m sorry I’ll miss Pat Sloan, but will hopefully get to hear her speak again. Thank you for creating this conference. You’re covering some of my favorite subjects. Legal protection, taxes, book creation, submitting to magazines, & a secret wish – fabric lines.
