Lorrie comes from a family of makers. One of her ‘Nanny’s’ taught her to embroider, the other taught her to sew, and her mom taught her to quilt.

However, it wasn’t until moving from OKC to Chicago, 18 years ago, that she really, truly found she loved creating with needle and thread. She combined all of the talents handed down to her to comfort her while she was so far from home.

It gives her pride in herself knowing that she could start her business, SewMod Designs, from her skills. It’s not just a hobby … she needs to create!

Lorrie thinks of her style as ‘cottage’. She likes robin’s egg blues, pinks, purples and oranges. She loves polka dots and florals or anything with a bike on it. She loves to create small projects, combine hand embroidery and appliqué into quilting, she will try to add a crochet flower to anything she can!

Together with a couple friends, Lorrie co-founded the Crystal Lake Modern Quilt Guild to help spread the joy and inspire others. Her love for quilting and sewing has grown so much over the years, it was only natural to become involved in the quilting community and encourage others just as she was taught and encouraged by the women in her family.
