I made the long handle version. I love this pattern. I looked at the instructions and Irene is right. You put the cord in the center of the handle piece before you fold and sew to give it structure. You can see my bag in this post. (Peacocks)

Irene's photos are great, and the directions for dropping the feed dogs are also in the manual (under the section on darning).

I have a 201, 301, 401 and 15-91. I must say that my 201 is my favorite. It's the quietest, easiest to clean and sews beautifully.

just would like to get opinions on what people like and use as far as pre-1960 singer electrics. i personally have a singer 15-90 from 1948 that is very durable and easy to use, sews denim and other tough materials with ease. just like to get other people's opinions

Amazing! I'd love to have something similar for storing ribbon, but I know I couldn't make it myself (my woodshop teacher used to sigh when he saw me coming...) You are lucky to be so handy!
