Hi there,

I just made a satin scarf and hemmed around all 4 edges with a double folded 1/4 " (o.5cm) hem.  I found that any larger size hem looked too "puffy", i.e., it did not keep flat and crisp.  I also added some machine embroidery stitches along the edge, it was a herringbone stitch and this really made it hang nicely.  Not sure if the embroidery will look good with your dress or not.  Hope you figure it out.

I've been using my Kenmore 158.1516 for years now (it was my MIL's from the 1960s). I'm in the middle of making 60 party favors for my twins' birthday and it has now decided that it will not zigzag!  If it even can be fixed it won't be in time for me to finish the stuff for the party.

I've never done sewing machine research and now I'm  stuck!  So what is considered the best solid not super fancy machine out there?  I love my Kenmore. I just do small projects for the kids so it just needs to be able to sew and do some zigzag stitches and stuff. Nothing too fancy but it must be built well!

Thoughts?

I have made at least 6 of a Creative Keepsakes simple, bishop style pattern. This was one of the first garments I tried. Both sets (white oxford cloth and lavender brushed cotton check) have worn very well...like 3+ years! The neck is nice and wide, so there's not buttons. My daughters love them b/c they are comfy and old fashioned without being too sweet. I smocked using simple, tonal geometric designs and it looks lovely. I did add a cotton eyelet trim to the wrists, but omitted any ruffles. The overall look is clean.

CKP#198 Child's Smocked Gown/Robe
Sizes Girls 1-6 (their sizes are quite long, even with a deep hem.)

The other pattern I've liked is New Look 6334. I whipped up two girl gowns from a thrifted sheet. These have also worn well.

happy sewing,
katherine

Hey everyone! I am new to the site (but definitely not new to sewing Wink) I bought a couple really cute flannels to make my girls some flannel pajamas for their birthday and christmas and was wondering if you guys had any patterns for night gowns?

Well, I did get them down a little bit -- to $1899.  I've just had it a couple of days but so far I LOVE it.  I can't believe how easy it is to thread and use.  I will get 2 2-hour lessons through the dealer.

I am so excited about these pants for my son.  These are the first zippered pants I have ever made for him, and he loves them!  I can't wait to make more in other colors.  Ottobre patterns are fantastic!  I have additional photos on my blog.
