My older sister taught me this tip from her seamstressing days: Instead of making a notch, make a tiny clip [1/8"] into the piece.

When i bought a satin fabric for the first time, it fried and was difficult to handle.
The second time i used satin, someone told me to take it home and finish the edges with a zigzag stitch. It made my work easier. I found more great tips for sewing here: http://www.sewing-patterns.org/89-sewing-machine-problems/85 http://www.sewing-patterns.org/84-how-to-sew/79 And you will see there many more... |

I own a babylock eclipse serger, but I bought it used
several years ago on ebay. I love the jet air system, it so easy to thread. I've had it for maybe 5 years and never had to have it worked on. Never been sorry I bought it. good luck with your decision,,make sure the serger has a operation manual with it. |

Hi,
I am new to sewing. I want to sew for my daughters a dress. I found a beautiful and simple dress i want to sew. the sewing pattern is here: www.sewing-patterns.org Is it too complicated for beginners? Basically, i know that there are many free patterns in the web. But i prefer buying for a few dollars something i like and get a ready to use pattern and a tutorial for it. What do you think (about the pattern i chose and about buying patterns)? |

Don't know if it is a good price or not but I've had my Imagine Wave for a few years & I REALLY like it. Just make sure your dealer will teach you about your machine. My dealer didn't really know much & I was sorry that I bought from her. Had to end up paying for lessons elsewhere. Dale

I am contemplating a Babylock Imagine serger. I have never used a serger before. I don't do a lot of garment construction, but I'm small and I need to hem things a lot, and I just can't make knits work with my sewing machine. Also it would be nice to be able to put in elastic waists. I was pretty impressed with a demo at the dealer today, and all the reviews I can find on it are raves. I really like the idea of the air threading as I have limited time to spend learning and futzing with a machine. Dealer today quoted me $1999. My question is ...is this a good price? Should I negotiate and see if they will come down? I don't like the way it is like buying a car used to be...so hard to find out what it really should cost. Any experience/info greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
Has anyone else tried the "Kevin Trouser" pattern? I just got it and am quite disappointed. There are no seam allowances given and the pattern pieces don't match up well. I'm hoping someone knows something I don't! ![]() Thanks, Sharon |
