I don't know much about sewing, pretty new, but I would think it is very similar to the Pillowcase dresses but instead of putting the ribbon through the neck you would use bias tape around arm holes and up to tie.  Sound right?

Just be careful, some of the pillowcase dresses  have weird arm holes.  I made one with a McCalls #M5797 that has arm holes that would work.  I think I might try it. But you would need to gather the neck line and back before putting the bias tape on.  Do you think that would work?    My daughter hates the ribbon when its through the neck line.

That looks like a pillowcase dress to me but it has a casing with elastic in the front & back instead of ribbon ties through to gather.I've made a few with the elastic & its very easy.

I agree, it definitely looks like a pillowcase dress with an elastic neckline and biastape/ribbon straps.  I don't think it would be too hard to change the pattern.  Just when you get to the casing for the neckline--make it big enough to enclose your elastic and then just fold the biastape/ribbon over the raw edges of the armholes and sew around, obviously leaving enough to wrap up around the shoulders and tie.
This is one of the best parts about sewing your own clothing--finding something you like and experimenting to make it your own!  Everywhere I go lately, I look around in stores to see what I could make for my daughter instead of buying it.  And in some shops--that'll save you quite a bit of money, too!

You can google pillowcase dress and get some free patterns online.  That's how I got my pattern.  I've never tried one from the main manufacturers--I have a tendency to get confused with their pattern directions.
By the way--I totally love your inspiration piece and now may have to make one for my little girl too!  Hope my info helps--but your post definitely helped me!

I would just be careful woth some of the online tutorials the arm holes are kind of weird.  Not not totally defined.  They just kind of continue up from the seam.  You would need one where the arm is more curved.  Hope you can figure out what I mean.

                    Good Luck!

ya I know what you mean some don't really have arm holes
I bought a pattern "New Look" 6478   from walmart looks similar but without the gathered front figure that should be easy to add?

Check out the "Patchwork Dress" tutorial at crazymomquilts.blogspot.com.  I love her blog and she is fabulous at making it all seem so easy.  This dress is almost exactly what you're looking for and I knocked one out in an hour last night!  Email me if you have trouble finding it.
