    on: March 19, 2009, 06:23:47 AM
Recently i've started sewing lessons. The first thing we made was an apron, now we will make a top like this.

For this top we need to find 1m fabric but it has to be linen - viscose, not 100% linen.
Does anyone knows where i can find this online?
I've searched etsy but i couldnt find it overthere..

Hi, if your instructor hasn't offered any guidance, you might try searching instead for linen-rayon blend (viscose is the liquid form of rayon.)

I was looking for 100% linen at Hancock Fabrics, and found a couple of different blends that I think were linen + rayon.  It definitely has a softer drape that might be suitable for your project.  Both are natural fibers and would work up nicely for a comfortable, drapey summer top.

You could try searching for tonal+stripe+linen+rayon+yardage+buy.  Be aware that Rayon/Linen has a higher percentage of Rayon, and Linen/Rayon has a higher percentage of Linen (naturally).

Side note: If you buy fabric at a fabric chain store, learn to look carefully at the weave and finish before you purchase.  I keep running into flaws in the textured cottons and linens at my local, conveniently located store, not to mention they can cut carelessly off-grain and cost me up to 3-4 inches (almost an eighth of a yard).  Look carefully, and ask for a true-to-grain cut or an eighth yard extra than your pattern calls for.

Good luck on your projects, and please post some photos when you're done.

          Check out fabric.com

I just bought some really pretty pink linen-rayon for an Easter dress.
