You Can Make This download patterns - opinions?

You Can Make This download patterns - opinions?
    on: March 22, 2009, 03:08:25 PM
Has anyone used the downloadable patterns from You Can Make This (dot-com.)  I was looking at some children's clothing patterns there, but was wondering about quality, pain-in-the-neckism of putting the full-size pattern pieces together from 8.5x11 printouts, and so forth.  I wish there were reviews of the patterns, like books on Amazon.com, because there are some really cute things I'd like to make!

Hi!  I have tried a couple of patterns from here.  None of them really came with a pattern- like the Round Neck Top and the Edith Twirl Skirt.  However, the patterns were great!  There are reviews usually on there as well.  Scroll down to the bottom of the pattern you like and there are usually reviews and pictures.

I just bought an apron pattern from there last weekend.  So far, so good.  I like a lot of their items, but wasn't quite sure about them either.  The apron pattern is really cute Smiley

I have bought a bunch of patterns off that site and every one has been easy to use so far.  Now I will admit that I haven't used them all yet (I'm a big procrastinator), but the patterns I have used are easy to print the pattern pieces and ptu them together and the directions, for me anyway, are much easier to understand than one of the big name pattern companies.  Also--most of the patterns include a way to contact the designer if you have questions.

So far, I've made an apron, hair bows, easy-fit pants, the Annette dress, the DeeDee dress, the Bella skirt, one of the tutu patterns, the Belle Elysse dress, a drawstring bag, a stocking pattern and a heart tablerunner.  Wow--actually I have made quite a bit from there.  Well, I am feeling better about myself just for answering this post!   Wink  I would recommend all of these patterns.  I'm not that great of a sewer and I made all of these!

How did you like the easy-fit pants? Are those the ones that were gender-neutral, sized from 1-10 plus dolls? With ruffle or cuffed hem options?
OK - if they were...do they have VERY wide legs? Do they have a definate front and back cut? (I hate the droopy-drawers-in-the-front look, LOL!)

I really liked the Easy-Fit pants, and yes they're sized 1-10 with dolly patterns.  I've made a couple pairs for my son and a pair for a little girl when I needed bloomers but didn't have time to buy/make up my own pattern so I made little shorts for her.  They do not have separate front and back pieces.  You actually make 2 leg pieces and then seam them up the middle and around the crotch to connect.  On my son, they were not droopy at all, but I haven't made any for my daughter yet who is VERY long and lean.  The legs are fairly wide, but she gives advice on how to make them less or more wide too.
I'd definitely recommend them if you want something quick and easy.

I love this site I think I have spent about $200 on this site but I love the patterns on this site.  I like the ones with matching doll dresses.  DD loves it when I match her clothing to her doll.

I've used many patterns from this site too and love all of them. But I will say that if the pattern you are considering has any pattern pieces that will need to be pieced together, it's hit or miss. I used a pinafore pattern, for instance, that was a total nightmare to put together. The lines didn't line up, you had to leave a missing chunk out in the middle that didn't work out as pictured for me, etc. It just made my head want to explode. But that's the only pattern I can think of that I've had anything less than a great experience with. Almost always, the printable pieces will be small enough to fit on one piece of paper and the rest are measurable rectangles that don't require a pattern.
