anyone have any tips for cutting and sewing with clear vinyl???

Embarrassed I am trying to sew pockets to slide ID cards in to, and man is that stuff frustrating to work with. How do you mark where to cut it and how do you hold it in place to stitch? I don't have a nylon foot, but I am using my walking foot.

thanks
lynn

Try using a binder clip to hold things together.  You can also cut the vinyl bigger than you need trim it after you've sewn it in place.  Instead of using the walking foot, you can layer some tissue paper (usually vinyl comes w/ tissue paper) and rip the tissue paper off after you sew it.

You might try using some wash away wonder tape to hold it in place while you stitch.

I use the layered tissue paper.  It works really good and is easy to tear off!  As for cutting, really sharp scissors help!

I've only glanced over this tutorial I saw today, but it may help you a bit - ID Purse by Thimbleanna.

My normal foot sticks like crazy to vinyl, so I use a non-slip foot and it sews fine.  My machine's non-slip foot is made of plastic, but I know some machines' non-slip feet are metal with a layer of teflon on them.
