Winter in OZ...looking for tutorials / ideas for girls winter skirt / dress

Well, went shopping for some Autumn/ Winter clothing for my 4 yr old and the choice of colours and fabric in shop
garments is ghastly this season !
( seems funny to mention Winter when most of the USA is hailing the onset of Spring !!)
Does anyone have any ideas  or links / tutorials or patterns for easy to sew skirts or pinafore dresses in warmer weight fabrics??
Also, I really like the cute pleated skirts  over some footless tights...are the pleated skirts hard to make ??
Looking forward to some feeback and ideas,
Cheers, Peta-Jane

I'm always a fan of basic solid colored corduroy then adding a fun embellishment like a big felted wool daisy with rick rack stems, or even a few fun mismatched buttons near the neckline can liven things up. The solid color allows for some fun tights without everything looking too busy.

A pleat is not difficult, it's just fabric folded in a Z-style. You can Z-fold a length of fabric, baste across the top, then sew on a band to make a simple pleated wrap style skirt. I advise kilt pins or tacking it closed, especially for very active young girls! Wink
