Nappy Bag Pattern by Amy Butler

Nappy Bag Pattern by Amy Butler

I just finished making Amy Butler's Nappy Bag with the matching changing pad and carrying case, and her pattern is a breeze to read and follow.  Much as with the posts about her other patterns, a lot of time has to be devoted to prep, lots of pressing, cutting and interfacing, but the sewing is relatively quick.  I'd say it took a total of 6 hours, not including pre-laundering the fabric.

The bag is fabulous, very large, and very sturdy.  But with that comes some weight from all the fabric (exterior, canvas lining, interior lining, doublesided and interfaced interior pockets and bottle pockets).  Only minor difficulty in sewing through so many layers of fabric.  The changing pad is huge, the carrying case might be cumbersome to use, but it all fits into the bottom of the bag perfectly, giving the bag stability when you set it down.

The pattern yields a lot of interior pockets, which can result in some frustrating searches for whatever it is you're looking for.  But, the interior pockets can very easily be reduced by eliminating those panels.  And the cell-phone pocket on the front is a great feature (unless you have a blackberry, it won't fit.  I do recommend magnetic snap closures, as well as the addition of a key fob to hook keys onto (eliminating frustrating searches for your keys in all of those pockets).  The design is awesome, wears almost like a messenger bag, fits snug right under the arm so things don't fall out when you bend over to pick up the baby.

All in all, an excellent pattern and a great bag.  After this post, I'm buying another Amy Butler pattern for a purse!

Sounds like you had great success with this pattern.  I haven't used any of her patterns but I'm going to try one soon.

Thanks for your take on it. I've been eyeing a few different purse patterns from her.
