Anyone used vintage girls 50's pattern or know a easier pattern

    I like the look of the 50's girls dresses but know nothing about them. I am looking at a dress similar to the link below and I am guessing I am going to need a slip petticoat to make the dress full is that right?   My sewing ability is intermediate.  Are these patterns difficult? Should I buy a old one or can I find a pattern or ebook from today with a similar dress.  I would like any help.
