I'm fairly new to this forum and maybe this has been asked before-- Can I buy  Ottobre magazines in a store  or are they only available by subscription ?

I don't know about stores, but you can definitely purchase single issues on ebay.

There are several places where you can by them from a supplier in your country, just google them.
I've never seen them in a store.
You can also buy single issues from the ottobre website and I have found that they are reasonably priced and arrive quickly.

The only US source that I know of for direct subscriptions and back magazine orders is Wooly Thread (http://www.woolythread.com/).

I have a question about the magazines.  Are the patterns inside the magazine?  Or do you have to buy those separately?  I am really confused...  And I just ordered a back issue from the Ottobre site.  I should of asked before I ordered:)

                Thanks

the patterns are in the magazine. It is just pictures of the clothes and in the middle are all the patterns. I ordered one a month or so from their website and it arrived very quickly. happy sewing!

You have to trace the patterns that you want & add seam allowances. I don't have any but I sure do want to buy a few different issues! I know most people love them!!

What do you use to trace the patterns out?  And how do you add the seam allowance?  I ordered a magazine, hopefully it will be here soon.  I'm feeling a little intimated now though:)

You can use pattern paper or any thin paper or interfacing that you can see through enough. Add seam allowances by just adding 1/2 or 1/4 of an inch to the pattern whichever you normally use.

I have never tried this, but it looks pretty cool.  You can buy a Rotary Cutter Guide Arm for adding seam allowances to fabrics.  So you would trace the fabric with the guide arm, and the cutter would do the cutting at an even space away from the arm.  They're at the bottom of this page.

Are the pattern instructions in English? And are there a variety of sizes for the women's clothing patterns? I noticed on the Ottobre web site, the women's magazines show quite a few full-figured women wearing clothes made from the patterns in the magazine. So I didn't know if the patterns for those outfits were only available in larger sizes. I'm kind of petite-sized and some of those larger-size outfits are really cute. I'd like to make them for myself if they were offered in my size.

All of the womens patterns do come in all sizes (European sizes 34 - 52).   The magazine is printed in several languages so you can choose to have the English version when you order it.  My first one just arrived a few weeks ago and I can't wait to try it out!

Ottobre Rocks!  I started subscribing about 1.5 years ago and I've not looked back since.  If you're on the borderline, trying to decide about Ottobre, I say, go for it!
