My first smocked dress!

    My first smocked dress!
    on: July 02, 2008, 11:07:18 PM
I just finished my first project with hand smocking.  I'm pretty tickled at how it came out so I wanted to share some pics.   Smiley  The pics with my daughter *in* the dress didn't turn out so well, so I had my husband take some of my dress dummy wearing it.  The pattern is "Amy" from Children's Corner and the back is smocked in the same pattern and colors as the front.

Here is a close shot of the smocking:

Beautiful job! It came out gorgeous, i wouldnt know it was your first try thats for sure. I love seeing non traditional fabrics used for girls dresses. Dont get me wrong, i cant pass up the cutsey, but its refreshing to see lizzards on a dress now and then!

That is beautiful. I remember smocking in Girl Scouts but have not tried it since. I absolutely love the timeless look of smocking.

That is really beautiful. That is something I want to learn! Is it difficult?

madre-adoptiva, smocking is not terribly hard.  I took a class to get the basics, but you could learn from a good book, too.  I think the hardest part of smocking is patience.  Grin  There was another post on here somewhere about beggining smocking...  Can't find it right now, but good books to look at to try to learn are Ellen McCarn's English Smocking book as well as the A to Z's of smocking (I think that one was put out by Country Bumpkin Press).

Fairy child Heirlooms (Missy), you have made some gorgeous dresses!  Ahhh..  Some inspiration to go pleat up another project.   Smiley

Wow!  Great job.  Smocking is on my list of things to try, but way down there!  I've got so many things I want to try and not enough time to try them all!  I am very impressed!
