Basic Sewing Machine with room to grow... Janome TB-12 or Husqvarna Emerald 116?

I've read through a few of the threads about a beginning sewing machine and I'm still extremely undecided! I'm looking for a basic sewing machine for a beginner but also one that I won't grow out of too fast... I'm looking in the 200-300 range and thinking about even stretching that budget. My local store sells Pfaffs, Vikings and Janomes.  I'm trying to decide between the Janome TB-12 (it's a cuter version of the 4912 from what I understand...) and the Emerald 116.  I'm not sure if it is worth the extra $100 to get the Viking which has a drop in bobbin holder, needle threader, and automatic button holder.  Any of your experiences would be very welcome!!

Here are links to the models...

I was considering the Emerald 116 or 118 when I was shopping around for my machine.  I was pretty much sold on the Vikings until I stumbled on a ridiculously great deal for my Janome (MC4900).  My Janome has a top loading bobbin (I think that's the drop in bobbin), needled threader and I think it has a foot to sew buttons.  I love these features.  I can't imagine loading a bobbin any other way, or having to thread a needle by hand.  The needle up/down feature is really great, too (I think the Emeralds have this, but the TB12 does not).

If you haven't already, check out some reviews on PatternReview.com.  It should help you get a better idea (or get more confused heehee).

I got the Janome Magnolia 7330 a few weeks ago and I just love it. it has the needle up/down feature (which I didn't think was important but now I don't think I could live without out it..LOL), automatic needle threader, drop-in bobbin...lots of features for a great price.   great machine.

I would seriously look at the Emerald 118 or 183. Tons of features for the money.

wow.  the more research i've done the more confusing! But  i am fairly sure I'm going to go with something with the drop in bobbin. I'm also looking at a few babylock machines.  Unfortunately the Janome dealer I went to only had the most basic magnolia...
