die-cut hearts for group quilt

    die-cut hearts for group quilt

I'd like to make a group quilt for a woman in my choir who has breast cancer. She was good and always got her checkups and mammograms. Her mammo in January did not show anything. A few weeks ago she went into the doctor, complaining of pain, and they found breast cancer in both sides. I'd like to make a quilt or prayer shawl so that she knows we are thinking of her and praying for her. Being that most of the people in my choir don't sew, I need to do something that is easy.

I was thinking I could cut out hearts and pass out permanent markers/pens for people to write a special message on it. The trick is, I don't know if I have the patience to cut out 40 hearts (I'm thinking 6-7" each). I know there are pre-cut hearts that are smaller, but they are usually patterned too. Does anyone know where I could get die-cut hearts in white or solid colors? I want something that will show ink clearly. I figure I'll applique them onto blocks and sew the blocks together. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I think your quilt idea is wonderful and one your friend will treasure.  I do not know of any die-cut hearts, but I think it the result would be much nicer if you did it yourself.  40 hearts sounds like alot, but it could be made easier if you used a template (a simple one cut out of cardboard) and sharp scissors.  You could even cut several out at once by layering fabrics.  Your fabric choice would be unlimited and the quality of fabric would be much nicer than if you bought something pre-cut.  You could even have a little dinner with some friends and have them help cut.   Grin
