What do you hope to learn?

The patience to quilt. I see so many beautiful ones out there but I tend to stick with small projects that give me a nice sense of accomplishment.

Zippers are the bane of my sewing existence.  There are so many cute tutorials and projects I'd love to try, but as soon as I see that dreaded zipper in the instructions, I click away and sigh.  There are tons of great tutorials on how to install zippers and some extremely helpful ones here on SMS, but it still doesn't make sense to me, I just can't get it right.  So that's what I'd love to learn how to do.

This is a really good question, by the way; I appreciate reading all the answers.  As a self-taught quilter I sometimes feel like I'm not a "real" sewer (seamstress? lol) because I don't sew clothes...which is because I don't do zippers...lol.  It makes me feel a little better to know that others would like to be able to quilt, and some of us quilters would like to able to do basic stuff!

I just bought a ruffler foot for my machine and I'm so excited to start using it, so learning how to use it the best way is my next project

I also want to learn how to make button down blouses which actually fit Smiley

Everything!  I haven't sewn since I was a young girl.  This blog is very inspirational.

Oh Bethie! Keep trying, it's really worth it. Have you tried invisible zippers? I love them!! Just get a few zippers and some scraps and just try putting in zippers. It might seem easier outside of the context of a project, you know?

I've been sewing for years and I never tackled a quilt because I was afraid. I finally ended up making one a few years ago because my mom and I were supposed to do one together as a gift and she got sick so I ended up having to do the whole thing myself. I know my method was unorthodox but it worked! And that gave me the confidence to try again. Now I'm not afraid!

I really want to make 2 heirloom petticoats for my girls who just love petticoat days (Victorian age). Then I can make simple pinafores that let the pretty petticoats peek out.
