I have never tried a bib and brace myself and I couldn't find a pattern in my stash to help with the placement of things, but I noticed that  http://sugarcityjournal.blogspot.com/ has many jumpers which they make up with the bib and brace design.  Maybe looking at some of their examples might help.

Thanks for that!  Had a look through and none of them seem to use this kind of fitting.  Its a metal thing.

I should have asked at the store when I bought it - I thought it would be obvious until I got it home!   Cheesy

You could always take the pattern back to the store and ask for some help.  Does the manufacturer of the pattern have a number or toll free line to call anywhere?  That is the great thing about the commercially made patterns like Simplicity and McCalls is they all have that "call us if you have any questions number"   Cheesy

Hope you can figure it out!
