Walking foot

I've been sewing for a long time and don't even know what a walking foot looks like. I have an old machine I bought from my MIL 15 years ago. Please, someone tell me what it looks like or show me a picture of one. All the problems that everyone described that the walking foot corrects, I have faced and would love to have finally found the solution.

    Thanks!!

I only quilt so I only use mine for quilting however you could use it for virtually any sewing project with multiple layers. I don't know if you have ever put yours on your machine to see what it does but the top foot "walks" or lifts up between stiches. In quilting and probably ay multiples layers sewing project this helps with no puckering! It works WONDERS on the binding of quilts. They are hardd tpf ind for some machines and are still significantly expensive when you do find them! I found the one for my White on eBay.

I agree that a walking foot does wonders with keeping stitches very accurate.  I was in Joann's and a woman came up to me and asked, "Do you sew?"  I wound up sewing her bridesmaid's dress with a slippery satin fabric and we were both pleased with the result.  (Phew!)

I know this thread is old, but it was very useful to me. I am wanting to try a little more adventurous apparel with some georgette and stretch satin fabric, and am hoping that my walking foot will make the experience nightmare-free!

I use my walking foot when I work on slippery fabrics, as well as quilting, etc.

I use my walking foot all the time. It is really great for matching up horizontal seams, and I am really picky about that.
