Husqvarna/viking Sapphire 870 vs Janome mc6600?

    Husqvarna/viking Sapphire 870 vs Janome mc6600?

(Topic renamed & moved from Fabrics and Notions to better reflect the content.)

Georgia; I was searching on the net for chats on sewing machines between Husqvarna/viking Sapphire 870 & Janome mc6600, the last post I read of your decision was Jan/09.  I am facing the same choice, I have tried both machines and both come from rep. shops w/owners that are great with machines. The dollar values are nearly the same, I've been doing some quilting since last Sept, that is what I want the machine for.  Can you tell me what you think of your machine? At one shop they love the 6600 at the other shop they love the vikings. I'm confused, this is a big purchase for me, would love you to read your thoughts.

      Hi Dawn,
Sorry it's taken me a while to reply to this, I've been trying not to spend so much time on the computer  Tongue, and I've only just seen it.
I ended up going with the janome, I've had it for almost a year now and I love it. There is a yahoo group for people who own this machine, or are thinking of buying it - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Janome_6600P/. I managed to find the answers to a couple of questions there. I did have some trouble with 'eyelashes' on the back of a quilt when I was trying out some free motion quilting, but discovered through that group that you just need to change the tension settings (different tension settings to those that the manual recommends) and it pretty much solves that problem.

I don't know anyone who owns the Husqvuarna, so can't really compare. I was worried about all the reviews that I had read though and it seemed it bit more of a risk to choose that one.

Anyway, I'm glad I went with the Janome. It was a huge extravagence considering I was really only a beginner with quilting, but totally worth it I think.

Georgia; I just went back to this site today, like you I've been busy also.  I ended up purchasing a Janome also its a 6500, got a good deal on it I think.  Considering I've only been sewing for a few months I couldnt bring myself to spend more.  I really like it.  Thanks for the web site think I will check it out. Happy sewing
