Looking for ideas for a quilt in memory of my parent's dog

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum, but I know how helpful many of you are.

I'm hoping for some advice on a quilt I want to make my parents in memory of their Maltese who passed away recently.  He was pretty much their baby since we've all grown up and moved away. It's funny how my mind just won't let me even start on the creative process at this time.

Casper was 14 years old and had been with us/them since he was 6 months old.  The vet only found out a week before he died that he had a brain tumour that ended up causing him to be confused (beginning to bite people defensively). It was inoperable and he was in a lot of pain when my parents decided to have the vet put him down.  I want to help my parents remember Casper in a positive way and not feel so guilty for having to make such a painful decision.

I want to incorporate the "Rainbow Bridge" poem in the quilt...still thinking about how.  I don't really want to acutally incorporate the rainbow colour theme, because I want it to be serene/calming, yet happy.  I was also thinking of making it a memory quilt for all their other four-legged family members who have gone before them (2 German Shepherds and a Yorkie).  I was thinking about printing their pictures onto linen and making it a square (or 4 squares).  What are your experiences with inkjet printing onto fabric. This will be a wall quilt, but it will eventually get washed.

Ideas?

Thank you in advance ...

Since I have never tried a photo quilt, I came up with these great tutorials after a quick Google search:

These might help in figuring out your project.
